Title: Everything Is Broken
Media: Plastered and painted wooden figurine, ceramics, found objects, grout
Size: 9 x 9
The Story: The title is taken from RL Burnside's remake of the Dylan song. With a broken heart, this piece was created following the initial "it's not working for me anymore" talk. My old friend, Ocotillo Woman, was hacked apart. She was a goddess figure of my own design, with her feet flying, long hair dramatically twisted like an ocotillo bush caught in a tornado, and chickens perched in her big hands. I also enjoyed the smashing of some of my ceramic pieces, and then reconfigured what remained into this piece, and sealed it in a frame. Listening to that song, it was theraputic, to say the least. The first show it was in, the curator broke the glass on accident. Ironic, no? Later that day, his girlfriend smashed a window in his apartment. He bought the piece of pure necessity, but I still think it bodes pure evil. I wish him well.
Status: In private collection
