An Organization of Faith: The Humane Society

The Humane Society of America has been around since 1951 and their ultimate goal is to help animals in their natural habitat and also to house and rehabilitate abused animals. The Human Society believes that the bond between humans and animals throughout the world has been weakened and they want to work towards mending the weakened bond between us and animals. The Human Society believes those using animals for their fur, medicinal purposes, and for food is inhumane and want to help animals be treated fairly. “We seek to a truly humane society in which animals are respected for their intrinsic value, and where the human-animal bond is strong.” That is the theme for the Humane Society and what they truly and righteously works for every day. Their mission is clearly outlined as “to create a humane and sustainable world for all animals, including people, through education, advocacy, and the promotion of respect and compassion.” The Humane Society does not limit its help to domestic animals but also to farm animals, wildlife animals, marine animals, and animals in research all over the world. By visiting your local humane society you can adopt a pet of your own ( one right by SLUH on Macklind Ave.!) Many people offer their time, talent, and treasure to the humane society through adopting pets, donating money, and maybe most importantly donating time through such programs as SLUH CSP.     I personally chose The Humane Society as my organization of faith because they best exhibited to me what being “a man for others” is. They give everything they have to those who cannot stand up or talk for themselves. They help poor, defenseless animals who have been abused in ways some cannot imagine. The Humane Society has faith in every one of us to help and sometimes shelter these animals. They help protect these animals through their kind touch and kind hearts and it shows me how God works through different people to help different people, and in this case animals.
