From the funk of opening track "If You'd Only" to the acoustic closer
and title track from Meet Me Halfway all of the compositions on this
debut solo album from Boyzone's Mikey Graham have been penned or
co-written by the star. The soft-rock / country influences on songs
such as "You're My Angel" and "Something About You" suggest that
Graham's solo direction is more Garth Brookes, or Bryan Adams than
the middle-of-the-road pop produced by his former band. The starting
beats of "If It's War" suggest a track just about to burst into an
up-tempo disco tune but instead the song materialises into little
more than a power ballad. While "Skinny Dippin'" is as cheesy as you
expect with such a title, it is enjoyably catchy. Graham may not have
the vocal range of former fellow band mates Messrs Keating or Gately
but judging by these proficient compositions it appears that a
successful career in song-writing beckons.
