I first heard Boyzone in '96 when "Words" came out. I've been a hu...........uuuuuuge fan ever since.
I thought Steo was incredibly cute ( and still do ) when "the "A Different Beat" video came. He was my fave member at the time. But, that was till I realized Shane existed. I, along with my friends, Vasudha and Mandakini drooled over him for about a month, till this live show called "By Demand" on Channel[V] showed a BZ special in February '97. Ro kept on giving these cute smiles throughout the show. And I just couldn't help ( who can, anyways???? ) falling totally head over heels, crazily and madly in love with him . They also played "Key to my Life" on it. That's how I heard about the "Said and Done" album.
Sometime in March Channel[V] ( by now my fave channel, for obvious reasons ) played a Boyzone concert and interview in Bangkok. Straght after watching it, I went and bought "A Different Beat". And my search for "Said and Done" began. I looked and looked and looked and looked. Must have been to every music store in town. One shop said it got sold out just a few days before. I cursed my luck and then looked some more. No one seemed to have it :((((
A couple of days before my birthday in May, my dad and I were walking through Connaught Place market in New Delhi. That's when a miracle ( well, almost ) happened. I saw this really tiny music store. Barely two or three people could fit into it at a time. I entered and asked for the elusive album. The salesman asked which band it was by. "Boyzone", I said, pretty sure he wouldn't have it. But, ( my breath stopped ), he said he might have it. When he got it, I was so excited that I was practically jumping and screaming in the middle of the market.
Now, don't you non-Indian fans feel lucky to get all the Boyzone singles, albums, posters, videos, magazines and what not. You actually get to see them concerts and even meet them if you're lucky.
Well, the boyz did come to India in '97. But, not to my city, instead to Bangalore. Going there was to expensive so I missed out on what was probably my only chance to see them. :(
Then came 1998, and with it "Where we Belong", my fave BZ album. My cousin Misha go for me ( Thanx so........ much, Misha )
But then, they both broke my heart. I remember the day I heard Ro got married. I didn't believe it for months till Steo said it on an MTV show. Not fair. He was supposed to be mine. Wahhhhhhhh !!!!!
1999 arrives........
Totally flipped over "When the going gets tough". When mad over Stephen, once again.
Thought "You needed me" was a really boring song ( love it now ). End of May, By Request was released and seemed to be available everywhere on the planet 'cept for in India.
I read Stephen was gay in the Indian Express. Was really shocked for a while till I saw a pic of Eloy ( he's dead sexy ) and flipped over him. Then I went and bought "The MTV Most Wanted Boys" album, which had the Caught in the Act song, "Let this love begin". It's really, really amazing. You have to hear it if you can.
28th June, 1999 I finally managed to get the BZ greatest hits album. "When You Say Nothing At All" became my fave song ever, till "Every Day I love You" came out, which took over.
I was really excited about 2000, what with Ro and Steo's solo albums coming out. Steo came for a promo to India in August ( read about it on the Stephen in India page ). But, obviously as Iam jinxed or my home town's jinxed or something, he just had to go to Mumbai. And I just had to miss him once again. I loved his album. Was really upset when I heard it wasn't doing well. Why ? Which moron wouldn't go buy it.
I was looking forward to Ro's album, even more than Steo's. But, I was really disappointed with it. Just liked a few of songs -- "Addiction", "When the World was mine" and "Brighter Days". Didn't like "Life is a Rollercoaster" at all.
Oh! another thing about Y2K. I stsrted working on my web site in June. And this is what I've got her. Hope you all like it. It's taken hours of sitting in front of comp, till my brains and eyes were ready to pop out.
2000 came to an end, with more and more rumours of BZ splitting up. I really don't want it to happen. But someday, I know it will.
"No Matter What" happens with BZ , I'll alwayz love you guys. Your music will always be there with me and all your fans
