The
Eternal Enemy
Wow.
I’m quite dumbfounded at the moment because the book exceeded my
highest expectations. What an
excellent idea. I love the way Pike
used the concept of genetic engineering – splicing a microchip into DNA to
produce higher levels of thinking, to eventually produce robots.
Having recently studied recombinant DNA technology, I know that creating
cyborgs using those methods is highly unpractical and impossible to do, but
dispelling the logic behind the science and concentrating on the surface of the
idea makes the journey that “The Eternal Enemy” takes the reader through
that much more invigorating. Wow.
The most enjoyable aspect of the story is that it is told in the form of a jumbled up jigsaw puzzle. Piecing together various bits of information that Pike provides as the book progresses made me go “ohhhh” every so often, after the history of Rela’s origin is revealed to the reader. Even now, I keep thinking about parts of the book that fit in with other parts. Actually, me thinks I’m going to read the book again, and then continue writing this afterwards. Reading books a second time always makes things noticeable that the reader didn’t pick up on the first time round. So this is me, signing off, for now :)
