R: I know the dangers going in.
G: Ryan, you're not a soldier. And neither is Jake. You're not trained for combat.
R: If everything goes as planned, we're not going to see any combat.
G: What if there's trouble? What if you're ambushed?
R: Well, that's where Adrian's survival skills kick in. He's got training, background, firearms.
G: You'll have guns?
R: We -- yeah, we're going into a war zone.
G: Oh -- oh, oh. This is -- this is not happening. God, please tell me this is not happening.
R: Shh. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, listen -- listen, Adrian has got everything worked out. We're going to go in, scope out the territory, get Jake, get him out.
G: What if he doesn't want to come with you, Ryan? The reason why he's there is because he wants to try and save those poor orphans.
R: Well, we're not going to give him a choice. I mean, he's got to come with us, and we'll make sure that the kids are taken someplace safe.
G: "Someplace safe"? What, someplace safe without gunfire and bombs? He's risking his life to save those children. And now you want to risk your life to save Jake? Has the world gone crazy, Ryan?
G: If anything happens to you --
R: It won't. It won't.
G: But if it does, I might as well be dead.
R: Don't you say that. Don't say that.
G: It's true, Ryan. My life begins and ends with you.
G: Ryan, please don't go to Chechnya. Please, I'm begging you. Please don't go. For me, please don't go.
R: I'm not -- I'm not doing this to be a hero. Gillian, I'm doing this out of pure survival. If Jake chooses to stay in Chechnya, he may not make it out of there alive. And if he doesn't make it, then we're not going to make it. Do you understand? The guilt would kill us. Could you picture yourself being at Jake's funeral, standing beside Joe and Ruth? Could you handle knowing that you didn't do everything humanly possible to save their son?
G: No.
R: No. No, and then your premonition of you and I never being together would come true because the ghost of Jake would stand between us. You would be haunted by him. At least my way, at least we have a chance, a chance for our future.
G: Go. But, Ryan, promise me you'll come back to me. Please. Because if you don't, I'll die.
R: I'll be careful. I promise you I will be careful.
