Brenda Questions Sonny About Ray Conway's Death
Brenda and Karen are trying to find info to clear Jagger. They are sitting at the counter at Kelly's.
B: We've figured it out this far, we can figure out the
rest.
K:Oh no. (B turns around and Sonny has come in.)
B: Well? What do you say? Let's get it from the horse's mouth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(S hangs up his coat and turns around. He sees Karen looking at him and she
turns away. S sits down.)
B: Invite him over.
K: I can't.
B: You have to.
K: I-No! The sight of him makes my skin crawl.
B: Listen, just get him over here and I'll do the talking. Think about Jagger.
K: I can't .... I can't stand to be in the same room with him. I'm sorry.
B: Fine, I'll do it myself.
K: I'm sorry Brenda. Good luck. (walks over to Ruby) Ruby, uh, I need to leave
because I need to go to the hospital. They're having a party in the ward.
R: (looks at S) Get out while the goings good. I don't blame you.
K: Thank you.
R: I'll see you later.
K: Bye. (S watches her go. B brings over coffee and hands it to him.)
B: Black, no sugar right?
S: Good memory Brenda.
B: Well, I make a special effort Sonny, with some people.
S: Oh yeah? Why's that?
B: You're interesting.
S: Your friend doesn't seem to think so. She left here like I had the plague.
But you're here makin' nice. Why's that?
B: Who says we're friends?
S: You two had your heads together like a couple of siamese twins.
B: Uh, I was just being friendly.
S: So hows your new digs? Last time I saw you, you were moving out of here.
B: Right, um... oh they're really good actually. Thanks for asking. How's yours?
S: Not so great.
B: I'm uh, sorry about what happened at your club.
S: What's going on here Brenda?
B: Nothing. (laughs nervously)
S: (laughs) Aren't you worried about what Ruby might think?
B: You're not worried about coming in here so why should I be worried about
sitting next to you?
S: I'm not on too many Christmas lists this year, that's all.
B: Well, I'm not getting too many Christmas cards myself, so I guess we have a
lot in common, right?
S: Right, right.
B: Look Sonny, I guess you're too smart for me. I did have something I wanted to
ask you about.
S: Oh yeah, why me?
B: Well cause you know everything about everyone in Port Charles right?
S: That would be nice.
B: I mean everybody that counts.
S: Who you interested in?
B: Uh, that guy that got wasted... Ray Conway.
S: He was a jerk.
B: I thought he worked for you
S: Now where d'you here that?(smiles)
B: I don't know.
S: Huh .... No, as a matter of fact, he had a permanent invitation to stay out
of the Paradise Lounge.
B: See, now I thought you would have been ticked off over him being killed, but
I guess that uh... I guess you couldn't have cared less.
S: (shakes his head) Couldn't care less.
B: Maybe you're even happy about it.
S: Where you headin' with this little wrap here? It's interesting but I've got
an appointment soon, see I've got to be somewhere. (looks at his watch)
B: No, wait.... listen, it's just that the police only have one suspect for
this. It's uh, it's your friend... and mine.... Jagger Cates.
S: Doesn't surprise me; he's a trouble maker. He'll be in trouble till his dying
day.
B: Yeah, maybe, maybe not.
S: You know something I don't?
B: I know that Jagger didn't kill him.
S: And how do you know that?
B: Look, I- I really know Jagger.
S: Then who do you think did it, not that I care. (B raises her eyebrows at him)
Oh, oh. I see what you're getting at, you little devil. You think it was me that
wacked him.
B: Did you? Or maybe you set him up for it?
S: You've got a lot of starch comin' over here and putting the screws to me. I
don't know if I should smack you (smiles) or give you a medal. B: Why don't you
just tell me the truth?
S: Who are you, Miss Brenda Star Little Girl Reporter?
B: Look Sonny, you haven't answered my question yet. Did you set Jagger up?
(S shrugs and kinda smiles)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
S: Sorry sweetheart, old Ray bought the farm without any of my help.
B: What about a setup?
S: That's not a half bad idea. Wish I would have thought of it.
B: Oh, so you hate Jagger that much, huh?
S: Isn't that one of the many things you and I have in common? Which makes me
wonder, why are you so interested in getting him cleared? Didn't he dump you for
Karen? (both laugh)
B: You don't know what you're talking about.
S: Maybe you set him up. Makes as much sense as me.
B: I would never do that.
S: Then what's the deal here? Are you just hoping he'll come running back to you
out of sheer gratitude?
B: Listen, Jagger's not with Karen and he's not with me either, ok?
S: Boy, that Jagger. He just leaves a-a trail of broken hearts.
B: he's not a bad guy. Listen, just because I know when to cut my loses as far
as our personal relationship goes, and *I* don't believe in banging my head
against the wall over a lost cause... doesn't mean I don't still care about the
guy. And I won't see him go to jail for something he didn't do Sonny.
S: I admire you're loyalty... but I think you're wasting your time on the wrong
person.
B: What about you? I mean, are you wasting your time on the wrong person?
S: You mean Karen? No way I'm carrying a torch for that one. I've got bigger
fish to fry.
B: (nods) Glad to here it.
S: So, what is Port Charles society going to think of you sittin here having a
private conversation with me?
B: (smiles) You mean, uh, what's going to happen to my reputation? I couldn't
care less. I don't believe in reputations. Do you? I mean forget gossip. I'm
into finding out about someone for myself.
S: Wow, good policy, (a man taps on the window and S looks) but I've gotta go,
um....(smiles) we'll continue this at a later date, this finding out about the
real person.
B: O.K.
S gets up, takes his coat and leaves. B goes over to the window. She rests her
head on the pane and sighs before she turns around and shakes her head at Ruby.
Scene fades with her gazing out the window. S&B have begun!
