S&B Double Date
with Robin and Stone
Stone and Sonny are decked out in their nice clothes and are finishing up the last minute preparations. Sonny and Stone are putting the food out.
S: “ Antipasto!”
St: “ Che bella!” (He tries to take a bite. Sonny tries to stop him.)
S: “ Uh…people have been found floating in the river for less. Here’s the deal. As much as I enjoyed helping you out with Robin tonight, it wasn’t the evening I had planned.”
St: “ What? You said you didn’t mind!”
S: “ To a point. I will ease the way for you, my young enamored friend. But when I give the signal, you will remember the errand you had to run…”
St: “ I know the routine. You mention Espresso…”
S: “ And you head for the door. It will be worth your while, because you will take Robin with you, in my new Jag.”
St: “ For real? Wow, that’s really amazing. You must really wanna get Brenda alone.”
S: “ You figured that, did you?”
St: “ I could run a whole bunch of errands if you want…for hours.”
S: “ Good thinking.”
Brenda and Robin are right outside of Sonny’s apartment. Robin is nervous. Brenda goes to open the door and Robin stops her.
R: “ Wait, I have to catch my breath.”
B: “ What, several flights of stairs?”
R: “ Not that, I think I’m hyperventilating. I’m nervous, okay? I’ve never done this before!”
B: “ Relax, we’re just having dinner with friends.”
R: “ I lied to Uncle Mac to see a guy he’d forbidden me to see at the home of a…”
B: “ A what?”
R: “ Brenda, Sonny is practically famous.”
B: “ It’s all in your head. He’s just a guy.”
R: “ Bull.”
B: (Smiling) “ Well, he is the sexiest man I’ve ever known. You know sometimes when he looks at me in the eyes, I could swear he knows everything I’m thinking. But beyond that don’t believe everything you hear. Now come on!”
R: “ Alright.”
B: “ You know why I think your freaking out? Stone’s on the other side of that door.”
R: “ I really do want him to have a good time.”
B: “ Don’t worry, I want you to have a good time. Nothing is going to go wrong. You’ll see.”
R: “ Okay.”
B: “ Okay? Okay.” (Brenda knocks on the door and Stone lets them in.)
St: “ Hey guys…”
B: “ Hi!?
St: “ Come on in. Hi. Hey Sonny, you remember Robin.” (Sonny and Brenda are staring at each other longingly.)
S: “ Hi, yeah, we met unofficially. Make yourself at home. I’m still slaving over a hot stove.”
B: (Smiling at Sonny) “ Oh.”
S: (To Brenda) “ You look great.” (He kisses her on the cheek.)
B: “ Thank you.”
St: “ Well, can I get anybody anything?”
S: “ Is he the hostess with the mostest or what? The apetizers are on the table and the sodas are over there …why don’t you show Robin the CD collection.” (Stone goes to show Robin the CD collection.)
B: “ They’re cute, huh?”
S: “ Yeah, they’re adorable. You owe me big time for this one.”
B: “ I know. That will make it twice as much fun.”
(Sonny looks at her with longing in his eyes.)
(Sonny is pouring wine.)
S: “ The last time I double dated was my junior prom.”
St: “ That must have been a trip. Who were you with?”
S: “ A gentleman doesn’t discuss other dates in front of a lady.”
R: “ But it was your prom…I mean it was ancient history.”
Brenda laughs.
S: “ Do I need this grief?”
B: “ I like imagining you in a tuxedo.”
S: “ It was rented with ruffles…the whole shabang.”
St: “ Oh, Sonny, I thought you were too cool for a prom.”
S: “ It’s amazing what a guy will do for a girl.”
Brenda smiles at him.
B: “ So what was her name?”
S: “ Deedee Genovese. I had a crush on her since the eighth grade.”
Stone gets up to go to the kitchen.
S: “ What are you bored already?”
St: “ No, I just feel like a beer instead of wine.”
S: “ Alright.”
B: “ Deedee? Was she cute?”
S: “ It wasn’t a matter of cute Brenda, she was what you would call mature.”
Brenda laughs.
R: “ We had one of those: Audrey Miller. My Uncle Mac used to tell me don’t worry Robin, some girls are just early bloomers. All the girls in class hated her.”
B: “ Not the boys.”
R: “ Well, that’s why we hated her.”
B: “ Right.”
R: (To Sonny) “ I’m sorry, go on.”
S: “ So Deedee was going with Louis Cerrullo but they broke up two weeks before the prom so she asked me to take her.”
B: “ I see.”
S: “ One would only hope. So I rented a limo and a tux and I bought her one of those…what are they called?”
R: “ Orchid.”
S: “ Orchid. And I double dated with her best friend Penny and this guy named Jacky Minsky, whom I could not tolerate.”
Stone is coming back into the room.
St: “ What was his problem?”
S: “ We…you know…hung around with different crowds.”
St: “ That’s trouble.”
S: “ Yeah, I had to put up with it, because the night was full of promise.”
R: “ Oh, that’s so romantic. I love this story.”
Brenda is smiling and is gazing into Sonny’s eyes.
B: “ What happened?”
S: "She dumped me."
B: “ Ohhhhh…”
S: “ Louie showed up, she got hysterical, they wound up under the bleachers.”
R: “ That happened to me.”
St: “ What do you mean?”
B: “ Uh, she dumped a guy halfway through the prom. He deserved it.”
R: “ He was awful.”
B: “ Then this really good looking guy couldn’t keep his eyes off her the whole night long.”
R: “ Yeah, Val. He was the greatest. Poor Sonny, you must have been devastated.”
S: “ Well, the night wasn’t a total waste. I finally got into it with Minsky…we trashed the limo. I got ten stitches…check it out.” (He shows them him where his stitches were. )“ Which was cool cause he got thirty, ya know what I mean?” (They laugh.)
B: “ So what happened to Deedee?”
S: “ Louis finally married her.”
R: “ Oh, poor Sonny, you must have been shattered.”
S: “ I was hurt, but I survived. Espresso anyone?”
St: “ Oh, Sonny, I just remembered. I forgot to overnight that package for you.”
S: “ Well, you’d better take care of that right away.”
St: “ Come on Robin. Dinner was great, thank you.”
R: “ Oh, really great, you’re a fantastic cook.”
S: “ Thank you. It was a pleasure meeting you, I hope to see you again sometime.”
R: “ Oh, wait a minute, where are we going?”
St: “ The post office, and then, who knows? We’ll drive around for a while, and then I’ll take you home.”
R: “ Brenda?”
B: “ Oh, yeah, go ahead, have fun.”
S: (Opens the door for them) “ Alright, man, see you.”
Robin and Stone leave. Sonny turns the lights off.
S: “ It was a shame they had to leave.”
B: “ Yeah, a shame. That was so smooth that I didn’t see it coming.”
S: “ What?”
B: (Reading him like a book) “ What?”
Sonny walks over to her and takes her face in his hands. They kiss passionately.
(Brenda is drinking some wine. Sonny has turned on the stereo. They stare at each other longingly. “ Waiting For a Girl Like You” by Foreigner starts to play. They start dancing.)
S: “ I danced to this on prom night.”
B: “ I love oldies.”
S: “ Oh please, not you.”
B: “ You were great to Robin tonight.”
S: “ She’s a good girl, you know, Stone likes her, that works for me.”
B: “ You make great clam sauce.”
S: “ Thank you.”
B: “ All in all it was a good evening.”
S: “ It’s only just starting.”
B: “ Is that so?”
S: “ mmhmm.”
B: (Sighs) “ I remember once, imagining what this would be like.”
S: “ I think about it all the time.”
B: “ And…”
S: “ And now I’ve got the real thing.”
They stop dancing and he takes her face in his hands and kisses her passionately again.
(They are still kissing when suddenly Brenda stops him.)
B: “ Wait.”
S: “ What? I thought we were doing really well. Come on.”
B: “ We are, I just want to be careful.”
S: “ I wouldn’t want to do it any other way then safe.” Sonny moves her hair over to the side and begins to kiss her neck.
B: “ Not just that kind of careful, Sonny. This is starting to feel like something important, bigger than I expected I guess. I just feel…”
S: (Kissing her neck) “ God, I hope so. With our luck we’ll move the heavens baby.”
B: “ I feel… You’re not listening to me.” Brenda pulls away from him and turns around to face him.
S: “ I’m human, Brenda. You’re wonderfully distracting.”
B: “ I just want to be sure.”
S: “ I know. Come here.” He gives her a couple of soft kisses. “ Is there something else you’d rather be doing?”
B: “ No.”
S: “ Is there any other place you’d rather be? ‘Cause just tell me.”
B: “ How about on the floor?”
(She takes his face in his hands and kisses her passionately. They fall down to the floor and begin to make love.)
S&B are on the floor, getting ready to make love when the phone starts to ring.
Sonny’s voice: “ I’m not here, leave a message.”
B: “ Oh, not now.”
S: “ Forget it, I’m not home.”
B: “ Yeah? Where are you?”
S: “ Right here, where I wanna be.”
B: “ That’s so sweet.” They lay back on the floor and make out some more. The person on the phone is a police officer. Stone and Robin have been arrested for driving under the influence and speeding. Robin had drank a glass of wine at Sonny’s. Brenda and Sonny are still making out and Brenda thinks they should stop so they can go get Stone and Robin.
B: “ Sonny?”
S: (Kissing her neck and moans) “ Feels good Brenda.”
B: “ Sonny?”
S: “ Feels real good. Mmm…” Sonny moans and kisses her very passionately on his mouth. He is still ontop of her and she begins to sit up.
B: “ Wait a minute. Listen to me.”
S: “ What?”
B: “ Robin’s with Stone so if he’s in trouble, she’s in trouble.” He begins to push her back again and he kisses her again. He groans. “ I’m sorry. I know how you feel.”
S: “ No you don’t know how I feel.”
B: (Seductively) “ You’re so sweet. Trust me. But I feel responsible; I have to call the cops back right now.”
Brenda gets off the floor and walks over to the phone.
B: (Looks down at Sonny) “ Don’t be mad. Are you mad?”
S: “ I survived two bullets, I think I can survive through this.”
B: “ And your scars are so sexy too. I’ll make it up to you I promise.” They kiss passionately and Sonny starts to pull her down again but she won’t let him and eventually they get down to the police station and have to face Mac.
done a scene from Romeo and Juliet with Robin.
S: That’s not funny.
B: Yes it is. What’s Mac’s problem, anyway? I mean, did you look at him? I thought the top of his head was gonna blow off.
St: That guy is such a pain. I can’t even believe it.
B: Actually to be fair, he’s not that bad, he’s just totally irrational when it comes to Robin.
St: When it comes to me you mean. I mean, what do I have to do? Does he think that I like getting dressed up like a fool and going on and on about stuff that I don’t even understand? I mean, I must have been nuts letting Robin get me into something like that.
S: Forget Mac! He probably has no appreciation for raw talent.
St: How can you say that? I was a nightmare.
S: Stop putting yourself down. You were great, I’m telling you.
St: I lost it right when I put on those tights.
B: Well, the things you do for love.
Stone walks by and gets ready to walk out.
St: Look, this day is history. I’ll check you guys later.
B: Stone!
S: He’s fine, don’t worry about it. I’m the one that uh, needs attention.
B: Yeah?
S: So, what are you willing to do for love?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brenda and Sonny are kissing. He starts to kiss her neck and she starts to giggle.
B: Alright, alright.
S:
Was it something I said?
B: No, no, don’t get me wrong, you look so good in a tux, but I am a business woman now too.
S: What kind of business are conducting at this hour?
B: I won’t be long.(Kisses him and then whispers) Just stay right there.
(Brenda calls Lois and tells her about Miguel singing at the Nurses Ball. Lois is happy to hear this. Sonny comes over and begins to kiss Brenda’s back and neck. Brenda is turned on so she tells Lois that she has to go.)
S: Sorry to interrupt your conversation.
B: (Puts her arms around him) No you’re not.(They kiss)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
B: You’re the only one who can get my attention.
S: The feeling’s mutual. You’ve had mine for a long time.
B: Yeah?
S: Don’t you didn’t notice how much I loved showing you off tonight.
B: (Not too happy to hear this) Showing me off tonight?
(She walks away. Sonny follows her.)
S: You walk into a room, men’s eyes pop out of their heads. I mean, you probably don’t even notice because, you know, you’re used to it but I do.
B: And you like that?
S: I love it. Wanna know why? Because you’re my woman and they can look all they want but you come home with me.
B: (Irritated, turns around to face Sonny) You know what? You’re making me feel right now I’m some kind of trophy you can just put up on your mantle or something.
S: That’ll work.
B: (Very irritated) What?
S: A mantle. How’s your sense of balance?
B: No, don’t… (He goes to hold her.)
S: (Laughing) Come here. What? Come here, come, come, come to daddy. (Brenda lets him hold her.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brenda and Sonny are lying in bed. Sonny is moaning and Brenda’s head is resting on his chest. He’s also laughing. She pulls her head off of his chest. Sonny looks at her.
S: What’s that?
B: What?
S: That look and don’t say nothing cause I hate when you do that.
B: Okay.
S: Mm hmm.
B: I’m just thinking about earlier when you called me your woman. (Sonny laughs.)
B: (Irritated) What?
S: Well, that’s what you’re, right?
B: (Sits up in bed) Sonny! I’m more than just your woman, you know, I’m also your business partner and I would like to think that I’m your friend.
S: Funny you should say that cause I’m feeling extremely friendly at the moment. (Sonny sits up and kiss her cheek.) Come here.
B: Sonny. Come…
S: Come here woman. (She gives in and I would presume that they make love yet again.)
