“Goodnight Carly” Sonny said walking up the stairs.
“Night
Sonny” she said back, not really paying attention to him. She was looking out the
window, thinking. He knew what she was thinking about, Jason, his sudden arrival
in town had shocked everyone especially he and Carly. He sighed and knew that he
would never have all of her love and that part of her heart would always belong to
Jason, the love she had lost because of their first night together. He knew he shouldn’t
be sad or jealous about it because part of his heart would always belong to Brenda
and just like Jason, Brenda had his heart long before Carly even came into the picture.
There was a major difference though Jason was alive and Brenda, well she was gone
forever. Jason could always stay and fight for Carly and even possibly win, but Brenda
posed no threat to Carly, she couldn’t because she was dead. It still hurt after
nearly two years to link that word to Brenda’s name. Dead it
just didn’t seem real.
Every time he thought of her it felt like a knife was
being stabbed through his heart and for that moment and sometimes for even hours
or days at a time he couldn’t figure out why he should go one without her, how he
could go on without her. It just didn’t seem possible that she could be gone from
him forever, it just wasn’t fair. She had been so amazing, she had been so completely
perfect, simply because she wasn’t.
He blinked his eyes and took a few deeps
breaths as he walked into the bathroom. He looked into the mirror and saw the tears
in his eyes. I’ve gotta stop doing this he thought to himself. He had been
getting better about not thinking about her, he wished he didn’t have to do that,
that he could think about her and remember the good times and the love they shared
but he couldn’t just do that. Every time he would remember that she was gone forever
and there were no more good times and the future he’d always planned on with her
was gone and there was no more Brenda. There was no more love that made it difficult
to breathe, to sleep, to concentrate, it was all gone because she was. He took another
deep breath and put a wet wash cloth on his face. He had to get control over himself,
he needed to sleep, he had to be up early. He shook his head and walked into his
room, he just tossed his shirt and pants onto the floor. He normally didn’t do that,
but tonight he just couldn’t make the effort of being normal.
He got into
his bed and closed his eyes. Only he didn’t go to sleep, he began to daydream.
“Sonny”
she called to him “Breakfast”
“I thought we talked about you in my kitchen?”
he said walking down the stairs
“Oh calm yourself” she said smiling putting
a plate on the table “It’s waffles, the just add water kind. Not even I can mess
them up.”
He gave a fake, but genuine smile “Sounds yummy?”
She gave
him a fake frown “Fine don’t eat my food” and began to walk away with the plate.
He reached out an arm and took it from her and placed it on the table as he pulled
her close to him and kissed her.
“Now this is the what I call yummy.”
“I
definitely agree, but I’ve got to get Stone to preschool and then a meeting.”
“My
beautiful, little executive.” He said brushing some powder out of her hair
“Aww,
will you still love me when Lucy comes back and I’m only a lowly model?”
“I
don’t know, I kinda like being a trophy husband.”
“Oh do you?” She said kissing
him “Well maybe I will take her up on that offer of a real job.”
“Child in
the room” Stone said as he walked out from the kitchen carrying the milk, he’d picked
up the saying from his parents and he now used it every time they kissed in front
of him.
“Thank you for mentioning Stone” Sonny said smiling at his son, letting
his wife go.
“No prob Dad.” He said hopping onto a chair.
He
was watching Stone pour milk into a glass, when Brenda wrapped her arms around him
“How did we ever get so lucky?” she asked
“Sonny” Carly’s voice called
him out of the daydream he was creating.
“Huh?” he said confused
“The
phone” she hollered back
“Oh, thanks” he said picking up the phone.
He
listened to Benny rattled on and on for at least an hour and when he finally got
off the off he had been bored into a peaceful slumber….
The alarm
went off and Sonny cursed, rolling over he hid his head in the pillow for a moment
before hitting the alarm clock off. He sat up and groaned, his head was pounding.
He collapsed back down to the bed, his eyes closed in pain “Sonny” a voice called
to him and there was a knock at the door “Sonny are you okay?”
That voice,
he knew that voice, it was so familiar, yet it was so distant to him, so unreal.
“I’m okay” he called back and he opened his eyes. He was in his apartment…his
apartment, his place above Luke’s. The door opened and Stone was standing there in
a pair of old jeans and a tee shirt.
“Man, I was worried about you. I know
you’re upset about Brenda, but god I’ve never seen you so trashed.”
“That
would explain the headache” Of course that was the only thing it explained
“Yea, I know you’re mad at her Sonny and I know you don’t wanna hear this
but Robin says she’s miserable. You guys love each other, I know she hurt you and
it was unforgivable, but”
Sonny cut him off “I love her more than the world
Stone, I could forgive her anything.”
Stone looked at him in shock “I can’t
believe you just said that, I thought you’d never…”
“I love her,” he said
shaking his head “I just love her so much Stone, it makes me a little insane.” The
dream was slipping away and out of his mind and reality began to take over and he
remembered catching her with the tape recorder and throwing her out of the apartment.
“I
understand, so I’m hoping you’re gonna forgive her immediately because it’ll be rough
keeping this from Robin.” Stone said shaking his head, he couldn’t believe he was
hearing this.
“No keeping anything from each other anymore, honesty Stone
that’s the only way. Okay now speaking of Robin I need you to have her get Brenda
over her in an hour, no an hour and a half. God I need to get busy.” Stone just continued
to stare in shock. “Come on we don’t have all day.”
“Uh what are you gonna
do when she gets here?”
“Something I should have done a long time ago” When
Stone didn’t say anything in response, Sonny continued on “Ask her to marry me Stone”
“Oh,
thank god. What the hell should I have Robin say?”
“Um tell her I want her
to get things out today and that I won’t be here. Oh sh!t, clean the living room.
Damn better make it two hours, the place needs to be cleaned.”
“Okay Sonny.”
He began to walk out of the room to go call Robin, when Sonny called after him.
“We
should get a house”
“What?” Stone asked confused again for the millionth time
that morning
“A house, this place is getting cramped, we should get a house.
I mean Robin basically lives here, we’d have more room if we had a house.”
“Sonny,
I can move out.”
“No” Sonny said quickly “I don’t want you to move out, okay
well I do, but with me and Brenda. You’re family Stone, you’re my little brother
and my son rolled into one, I want you with me, not to mention, I need you with me
at least for awhile longer, maybe in a few years, I’ll let you and Robin have your
own place, just not yet.”
“Okay Sonny” Stone said smiling at how odd Sonny
was being, he didn’t care though things were finally straightening out.
Brenda
slipped her key into the lock, she had been crying for the past two hours, how could
her stupid actions have led to this. To her and Sonny being over, she’d had thought
they would have forever. She opened the door and then stood in complete and total
shock. The room was filled with flowers and music played softly from the stereo.
There were two glasses of champagne on the table, the she noticed a small black jewelry
box on the table, she walked over to it and saw a card resting next to it Brenda
it read. She opened it
Do you know that husbands and wives don’t have to
testify against each other?
She laughed “Sonny Corinthos” she called out
“That was the worst proposal I’ve ever heard” he came out laughing.
“I had
to break the ice somehow” He walked over to her “Seriously though,” he said taking
her in his arms “I’m sorry, I just couldn’t believe you tried to hurt me like that.”
“I
just wanted to know the truth,” she said with tears running down her cheeks “I just
never thought I would lose you because of it.”
“You didn’t lose me, I’m right
here. Bren I had a dream last night about the future and you weren’t in it and I
didn’t know how to live without you, I didn’t wanna live without you.”
“You’re
crying,” she said wiping away his tears
“Promise me you won’t ever leave”
“I promise Sonny, don’t you know I love you more than anything.”
“I
think I finally do” he said kissing her softly on the lips, savoring her touch, her
smell. “You didn’t look at your ring.”
“I’m too afraid this will be another
trick ring.”
“I promise you it’s real” He picked up the box and opened it,
she gasped at the sight of an actual engagement ring “So you gonna marry me or what?”
“Um
let me think… Uh yea, oh my god, it’s beautiful, it’s amazing, you’re amazing.” She
said kissing him as she helped him slip on the ring.
“Sorry about the
bad proposal” He said a long time later in bed “I just couldn’t let you go ever again.”
“Bad
proposal? I think that had to have been one of the most romantic and significant
and amazing proposal’s ever and I think I might even love you more and I don’t know
how that’s possible.”
“Will you still love me if I ask you to forget all the
excess that’s supposed to be a wedding a marry as soon as possible because I don’t
know if I could wait a year to make you my wife.”
“I couldn’t wait either,
I want to brand you with my wedding ring and tell all other women to go to hell.
We can fly to Vegas this afternoon and be married in just a few hours.”
“I
was thinking more along the a church wedding just soon, like a week or two. I want
to tell everyone just how much I adore you and I want to swear before god that it’s
only you forever because it is.”
“You did it again” she said softly
“Did
what?” he asked
“You made me love you even more.”
Seven Years In
The Future:
For awhile Sonny thought that he had predicted the future,
that his dream was what was going to happen, he slowly realized though that he was
wrong.
Mac’s investigation never turned up anything on him and he was never
thrown into jail. Jason Quartermaine was never injured in a car accident and became
Jason Morgan. Lesley Lu never got sick, there was never an invasion of Cassadines;
there was no Alexis Davis, no Stefan, and no Nikolas to destroy Luke and Laura’s
marriage. There was no Carly Benson; Bobbie had never had any biological kids. Most
importantly Stone’s AIDS took a turn for the better not the worse and he responded
miraculously to the medicine, his AIDS nearly seemed to disappear and he lost the
title of being an AIDS patient and was re-labeled as only HIV positive. Robin never
contracted the disease and they are still both healthy and very alive. Flourishing
in fact, Stone became a partner in L&B and Robin became the doctor she dreamed
of being.
He used to feel an ache for the life he’d dreamed up, but when
he looked at Brenda with Michael and Christina, he couldn’t dream of a life without
them. When he saw Lily and Miguel taking Juan to school, junior high, not college
or Brenda and Lily when they took Christi and Maria out shopping with Robin and Annie,
how could he miss a world they didn’t exist in?
He shut the door of the office
in Luke’s and walked out into the club where Luke was fighting with Claude over how
to make a drink. He smiled and took a look around…
Lois was smiling up at
the stage where Ned was singing, still in his leather pants, even though he was now
a father of three. Jason tapped Lois on the shoulder to talk to her and leaned in
close and smiled and then laughed over something Karen said. He still couldn’t believe
what had happened in the past two years to them. Jagger’s and Keesha’s death seemed
to happen simultaneously and they had bonded over their lose and they were now raising
Johnny, Jagger’s namesake together. Mary Mae walked over and gave Jason a kiss on
the cheek and said her hellos before walking back over to her own table with Justus
and Simone. AJ walked in the door with his Nikki, his wife, his second wife to be
more detailed on his arm. They walked over to Justus’s table and the cousins exchanged
hellos. He left Nikki at the table and walked over to where Brenda, Robin and Stone
were sitting. He took a seat with them after kissing Brenda and Robin hello, they
sat together and talked for a few minutes before he got up and walked back over to
his own table where he held out his hand to his wife and they moved to the dance
floor together. They were dancing next to Lily and Miguel who still acted as if they
were teenagers, not the teacher and the doctor, not to mention parents they were.
The life he lived, his reality was better than that dream any day. There
was only one thing of that dream that had really stayed with him after all these
years. In the dream his father had stuck around, Mike had left town less than two
months after his marriage to Brenda. He’d made it through that just as he’d done
all the times before, only this time it was a little easier with Brenda by his side
and his father’s occasional visits to town to see his grandchildren.
“Penny
for your thoughts” Brenda said to him, he looked up at her “You looked lost” she
continued
“Just the opposite actually, I’m right where I belong.” He said
as she leaned into him and whispered of her love forever.
