Who we are
Sigma Alpha Iota is an international music fraternity that was founded at the University School of Music in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1903. At this school, our six founders joined together with the common love of music and made it our goal to help spread it across the country. Currently, SAI has over 400 chapters installed at colleges around the nation.

Our chapter, Alpha Gamma, was originally installed at Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio on Oct. 1, 1927. Our first actives were initiated in May 1928, and our chapter thrived until the late 1950s. It was reactived in 1990 and has been an active force in the Department of Music since, serving as ushers and lighting technicians at all concerts and performing our own Musicales.

To become a member of SAI, women must be interested in music and must have taken at least one music credit at the collegiate level. Many of the women in Alpha Gamma are not music majors; many study psychology, education, journalism, biology and many other fields!
