When they got to maternity, she was rushed into a room and the receptionist got a hold of Renee. "Miss, are you a friend of hers?" "Yes, her best friend," Renee said rapidly wanting to speed this up and get back to Ally. "So then can you fill all of the information out for us?" she handed Renee a clipboard and Renee looked it over. She didn't know all this information. There was like medical history and insurance information and all of that sort of thing. "I don't know all of this information," Renee shot back, speaking rapidly as usual. "Well does she have a husband or a boyfriend or parents who can fill all of this out?" the receptionist persisted. **Larry!** Renee thought furiously. **That bastard! Mourning over Jamie when his damn wife is in labor!** "Yes, she has a husband who's down a couple of floors with his son," she spat out, not wanting to tell her what she didn't need to know. "Well go retrieve him and then you can join your friend in her room," the receptionist told Renee and then turned away. Renee growled and stomped off towards the elevators.
"Larry!" a voice hollered over at him, snapping him out of his daze. It was Renee. "Renee! What are you doing here?" Larry asked, curious. "I should be asking you the same Goddamn question!" she yelled back. "What?" Larry looked back at Renee with puzzlement gleaming in his eyes. "Well let's see, you're in the hospital room of a dead girlfriend while your WIFE, yes Larry, your WIFE, is in labor now!" Renee glared at him with more anger than she had EVER possessed. Larry's head snapped, "Ally? Labor?" "Yeah, dipshit!" Renee yelled back. "Trust me, I wouldn't be wasting my time on your sorry ass, but the damn receptionist needs you to fill out all this damn information before I can go back to see Ally," Renee paused, staring at Larry who had his mouth gaped open. "Have you even remembered that she's here in Detroit with you or were you too emerged in that damn bitch?" Renee pointed towards the bed holding Jamie's dead frame. Larry blinked his eyes. He had never seen Renee this pissed off. She was always so calm and reserved. Then it FINALLY dawned on Mr. Larry. His wife was in labor and he was busy mourning somebody he didn't even really love. He stood up and grabbed Renee's arm and they rushed off towards the elevators.
"She called me because you were ignoring her Larry," Renee shot back. "You were too absorbed in that other bitch to care that your VERY pregnant wife was needing some support," she finished in a huff and looked away from Larry, not being able to look at him. Right now, to her, he was shit. He was worse than shit even. The elevator reached the floor and they ran to the receptionist desk. "Here's the bastard, I mean husband," Renee half- smiled at the receptionist who chuckled. "What room is she in?" The receptionist looked at a clipboard she had already started. "Room...." her eyes scanned the paper, "230, but you better hurry! She's almost ready to deliver I believe!" Renee shot off down the hall.
"Ally!" Renee rushed to her side and grabbed her hand, taking over from the other nurse. "I'm sorry honey, that stupid receptionist made me get that bastard. I'm so sorry he hasn't been there for you honey!" Renee spat out. "Renee, I, can't, handle thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisss!!!!!!" Ally started and screamed through a contraction. "She's at ten centimeters, she's ready to deliver," a doctor interrupted the conversation. "Ally, we're going to lift you up to another bed and roll you into delivery, okay?" the doctor spoke gently. Ally nodded her head furiously as she continued breathing deeply in and out, very fast. "Don't leave me Renee!" she yelled over at her. "I need you!" "I'm not going anywhere honey," Renee squeezed her hand and followed Ally over to the other bed they lifted her on. When the got to the delivery room, the doctor put Ally's legs in the stirrups and started coaching her. "Okay now, I want you to give me a BIG push! Remember to keep breathing!" Ally did as told and pushed with all of her might, just wanting to get the thing out of her. She squeezed Renee's hand, causing Renee to cringe, but she didn't say anything. "Okay Ally the head's out, now take some more deep breaths," Ally started breathing the way that she learned in Lamaze class...with Larry...Larry. She was wondering where the hell he was...but her prime concern was stopping the pain. "GET IT OUTTA ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Ally screamed at the top of her lungs.
"I AM breathing!" Ally screamed back. She was feeling weak and Larry was invading her mind more and more, causing more frustration, pain, and heartache. Ally took a deep breath and pushed, feeling her vaginal area stretch past its limits and she screamed. Suddenly a baby's cry filled the room. "You did it Ally!" Renee squealed, still holding her hand and rubbing her forehead with an already soaked cloth she had been handed earlier by the other nurse. "It's a girl," the doctor said as he lifted it up for Ally to see and then took it away to get it cleaned. Ally was still in pain and started screaming again. Just as the doctor handed the baby to the nearby nurse, he turned back to see blood POURING out of Ally. "She's hemorrhaging!" he hollered.
Renee sensed the heavy worry in his voice but still spat at him. "The baby's fine, but Ally's hemorrhaging," she looked at Larry as his eyes widened. "But what the hell do you care?" she shoved him away from her and started looking back into the room, into the little corner window that happened to be on that door. Unfortunately, it had been covered. "Shit!" she yelled out and started pacing around. Tears started coming down her face. "If only you would have been there dammit!" she hollered over at Larry every now and then. Larry had sat down and began shaking his legs, tears falling from his eyes as well. **If only I had been there!** he started blaming himself.
Renee stopped and looked at him, her expression softened, only slightly though, when she saw the look on his face. She walked over to him, "What Larry?" Larry was realizing what had happened. "I think she saw something..." he faded out. Renee was confused, but not happy nonetheless. "What did she possibly have to see, Lar-ry?" her tone was still harsh, cold, and sarcastic.
The next thing he knows, Renee sent a right hook his way. "What the HELL were you thinking????" Larry sat up to try and explain what he knew he couldn't and she pushed him back down. "NO! I do NOT think so Larry! Get out! Leave her the hell alone! All you know how to do is cheat and leave! What, now that Jamie's dead, are you gonna go to your ex WIFE and then claim you can't handle marriage anymore?" Renee shot at him. If looks could kill, Larry would be dead on the spot.
"What happened doctor? Is she okay?" Renee asked. The doctor nodded silently. "She began hemorrhaging, due to some inexplicable stress I guess that was caused in the vaginal area. She lost a lot of blood, but IS alive. She's sedated right now and we will move her to a regular room when she is more stable." "What about the baby?" Larry spoke up. "She's fine. We're taking her over to the nursery right now if you want to see her," the doctor's focus was towards Renee, even though he had assumed Larry was the father. "Where's the nursery?" Renee asked, not wanting to wander around a hospital floor searching when she could just ask for directions...unlike stupid guys she knew...Renee looked over at Larry and rolled her eyes. The doctor pointed down the hall to the right. Renee thanked him, and then swiftly walked away. Larry followed at quite a distance, still rubbing his jaw, which felt like it was the size of a baseball. He saw a reception desk and asked for an ice pack of some sort. After he got the ice pack he walked towards Renee who was looking through the window at a baby girl in a corner under the name Paul baby girl. She had a dreamy smile on her face. Larry came up beside her with the ice pack on his face and looked through the window. The baby girl yawned and his heart skipped a beat. That was his baby. That was his baby girl. His and Ally's. **Oh my God,** he thought, **I've been such an ass.** "Isn't she beautiful?" Renee whispered as if she could wake up the children in there if they weren't already. "Yeah," Larry choked out softly. "She's so tiny," Renee added. A tear rolled down his face and he walked over to a set of chairs in front of the receptionist desk. He stared at his wedding band and wondered what had just happened in the past 36 hours. They came to Detroit to be with Sam, but it ended up being all about Jamie. Not only had he ignored Ally, she gave birth, which was something he should have been there for. He cheated on her by kissing Jamie. Why did he kiss her? That was the question that haunted his thoughts. OF COURSE Ally would be paying attention. There's a past there and he had been weird. Besides, she even called Renee because she knew she was going to be alone. **But why didn't she talk to me? ** he wondered. **You know the answer....you know why. You were in a daze. You wouldn't have paid any attention,** Larry thought to himself. Renee walked over to where Larry was sitting and sat down next to him. After a moment she asked, "How's your face?" she looked at him. "Sore," he remarked. "You've got quite an arm," he joked. "Well I've had enough problems with guys of my own. And, well, you know Ally's my best friend and no one screws with her," Renee responded half-joking, half-serious. "Listen Larry, please listen good," Renee took a deep breath. "If anyone deserves happiness it's Ally. All she's ever wanted was to find someone to love and be loved back...get married, have a couple of kids, and settle down. All I'm going to say is give it to Ally. And if you don't," she snickered. "Not only do I know where you live, you know I'll tear you up," she punched his arm half- joking half-serious, yet again. Larry rubbed his arm, "Hey quit it! I'm gonna be bruised dammit," he cracked a smile, the first real smile in a few days. Renee saw Ally's doctor walk into the nursery and check up on the baby. Renee got up and tried to catch his attention. He came out and walked over to Renee. "What can I do for you?" he asked. "Well I really would like to see Ally Paul," she told him. He looked at her, and then over at Larry who had replaced the ice pack on his face, stifled a chuckle and said, "Well I guess it would be alright, but JUST for a minute or two." "Thank you doctor!" Renee exclaimed and she walked back to the room she had been in previously. Larry was following silently behind, again from a distance. Renee walked up to the door and saw Ally with her eyes open, but she was crying, her body softly convulsing. She looked at Larry, back to Ally and then Larry again. "I think you should go in Larry. She needs to know you love her," Renee wouldn't leave it at that though. "Don't THINK I'm going to forgive you for what you did with that bitch before. The bruise on your face should explain my feelings and they are NOT going away!" She moved aside and motioned for him to go inside. Larry slowly opened the door and Ally instinctively wiped away her tears and sat up a little straighter, still gripping her now tiny again stomach. "Hi," Larry said softly right after he shut the door behind him. "Hi," Ally responded, her voice full of heavy emotion that she was unsuccessfully trying to hide. "How are you feeling?" Larry slowly approached her. "I just gave birth and God knows what else happened," she snapped, sniffling. Larry bowed his head at that comment. "Stupid question...listen, Ally," Larry began as he looked up. "Don't Larry. Don't," Ally sighed. "Just don't," Ally rubbed her eyes again.
Larry nodded silently, tears glistening in his eyes as he watched his wife hold their baby girl. It was a Kodak moment, but he had screwed it up and he knew it. "Ally," he began again. "Larry," Ally looked at him, still gripping her child's hand with her finger. Larry moved closer, slowly stepping towards the side of Ally where he could see the baby's face opposite himself. "I'm sorry Ally, I'm really really sorry," Larry bowed his head, wiping his eyes. Ally saw him do so. "Larry," she stopped and looked in the eyes of the baby. "Do you wanna hold her?" Ally offered her to Larry. Larry brought his head back up and nodded, choked up. "Uh, y- ye-yeah, sure," he stammered. Ally smirked at the stammering. It wasn't a normal reaction of Larry's. Ally handed her to Larry making sure the wobbly head remained supported. Larry started rocking her in his arms and a couple of hot tears rolled down his cheeks. "Hey," he whispered softly. She yawned at him opening her mouth wide and it caused him to laugh softly as he looked up at Ally who was content with a smile on her face. Larry looked back down at his baby girl. "I'm your daddy, yes, I'm your daddy," Larry leaned down to sit on the bed next to Ally. He handed her back to Ally. "What are we gonna name her?" Larry asked. Ally looked at her and then at Larry and then back at her again. "I'm gonna name her Faith," Ally thought for a moment. "Faith Avery. And do you know why?" she looked at him, knowing he didn't. "Tell me," he whispered, leaning his head towards hers. "Even though I watched you hold her hand, hold HER, and kiss her," Ally stopped, taking a breath, "I still have faith in us. I love you. I know you love me, no matter how much you've screwed up. And now we have this baby girl to think of," Ally looked down at the newly named Faith. "I have my faith, in my little girl," Ally looked back up, "and every time I look at you, I see the love in your eyes," Ally stopped and hugged Faith. "I do love you," Larry choked out. "I know you do baby."
Larry came up behind her, "She's so beautiful," Ally turned her head to acknowledge him, "just like her mother," he kissed her on the cheek and wrapped his arm around her shoulder. Ally sighed, "She's the most beautiful thing in the world Larry. So peaceful, so innocent." "Let's let her sleep honey," Larry gently pulled Ally away from the crib and they walked into the living room. There were a couple of candles lit for light and soft music was playing. Larry pulled Ally close to him. "What's all this Larry?" Ally looked at Larry, curious. "Well I can't remember the last time we danced, and I had a little something to say to you," Ally looked at him as he whipped out one of his little remotes and turned up the volume on the radio a bit. A raspy but sweet voice filled the air accompanied by a sweet piano rhythm.
There's a love that's divine
Have I told you lately that I love you
Take away my sadness
Ally closed the baby book and held it against her, rocking softly to the tune that was still in her head. What a great thing that baby brought to hers and Larry's relationship. She would never forget that moment in that Detroit hospital where she had recited how much hope she still held for her and Larry.
