Elopement

Told through Ally’s perspective. We all would love to be her when she’s with Larry. Wouldn’t we?

I loved to wake up lately because I knew that he would be there, lying there beside me. Snuggled up to my teddy bear. He looked so cute. His chest softly rose and fell with every breath that he took. I loved just lying there and watching him sleep but I knew that he would wake up soon. And almost on cue, his eyes began to flutter and then they opened fully. His deep, brown eyes seemed to twinkle (well, it just could have been sleep in his eyes). He looked up at me and a small smile appeared across his face.

"Good morning Sweetie."

"Good morning, Mr. Larry"

"What time is it?"

"About 7:30"

He pulled himself up slowly and kissed me gently on the lips. "How long have you been staring at me?"

"Not that long. Only about five minutes."

Then he gave me that look. The one where he told me that he knew I was lying and he wanted the true answer.

"Fine then. Okay, it was more like ten minutes. You have got to stop giving me that look."

"Well, while you sat there for ten minutes, did you see anything interesting?"

"No, not really. All I saw was you."

Larry moved himself over beside me and but his arm around me and motioned for me to put my head on his shoulder. I loved it when he did this. We sat like that for about ten minutes and then decided that we should get ready for work. Personally, I could have sat there forever. I got up and made my breakfast while Larry had a shower. While I was buttering the toast I could hear him singing in the shower. My heart skipped a beat as I recognized the song. It was our song, the one that Larry had written for me before he left for Detroit.

The thought of Detroit sent a shiver down my spine. I began to remember how lonely I had felt without Larry. Without feeling his warm body next to mine in our bed. But he had come back to me and that was all that mattered now. I sat down and had my breakfast. Larry sure did take a long time in the shower.

I went to my bedroom to repair the damage that we had caused the night before. Our clothes were thrown on the floor and we had knocked over one of my lamps. I picked it up and put it back on our dresser. Then I felt a pair of very wet arms wrap themselves around my waist. I spun around and there he stood. He was wearing only a towel!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had an instant urge to tear it off him but I composed myself and focused on his face. He stared at me with those gorgeous eyes and said, "Showers free!"

"Thanks".

I left the room and made my way to the bathroom but the whole way there I had the incredible urge to turn around and rip that towel right off. After my shower I went back to my room to get dressed. Larry was in the kitchen having his breakfast. I got dressed and then examined my face in the mirror. Another wrinkle. I was getting old and there was no way that I could stop it.

I walked out to the kitchen. Larry was on the phone. I knew that he was talking to Sam cause he had that disappointed look on his face. Larry tried to call Sam everyday so that Sam would always know that Larry would be there for him.

"I love you too Sam. Okay, I will talk to you later buddy. Bye."

Then he hung up the receiver. Larry sighed. I was going to say something but I knew that Larry would not want to talk about it. He just sat there for a while, staring at his toast. Then, he suddenly turned around and stared straight at me.

"Do you want to go out for dinner tonight?"

"Sure. Where do you wanna go?"

"Leave that to me. I will make it special."

"Why does it need to be special?"

"Cause I have something very important to say. Come on, we better go or else we will be late and Richard will kill you."

We left the apartment and Larry walked me to work. We said goodbye and he kissed me gently on the lips.

"I’ll see you tonight."

All that day, I could not concentrate on my work at all. What could he possibly want to say to me? Oh my God! He was going to leave me again. He was going to go but this time he was going to tell me straight to my face. I could feel the tears filling up in my eyes but I held them back. I didn’t want anyone to see me cry.

That night I dressed up in my sexiest outfit. Well, if Larry was going to leave me then I definitely was not going to make it easy for him.

"Wow. You look amazing."

"Thanks. So where are we going?"

"Well I thought that it would be nice if we had dinner at that new French restaurant. You know, the one that you have been hinting on about for weeks?"

"I have not been hinting on about anything. I don’t know what you are talking about."

"Fine then. Let’s go. By the way, you really do look amazing."

All through dinner I kept wondering what he was going to say. He looked a little nervous. I knew it. He was going to leave me again. I was going to start crying soon. Larry looked up at me.

"Are you all right, sweetie? Your eyes look a little red."

"No I am fine. So what was this important thing that you had to say?"

"Well, I have been thinking about this for a while but I just did not know how to tell you."

Okay here it comes. He is going to dump me. The one man in my life that I actually love this much and he is going to leave me.

"Ally, you are the most important thing in my life. You mean the world to me and without you; my life would not be worth living. Will you do me the great honor of agreeing to be my wife?"

I was shocked. I knew what I wanted to say but my mouth just would not open. God, why won’t my mouth open?

"Ally, are you thinking about it?"

"No, of course I am not."

"Well?"

"Well what? Of course I will marry you!"

My eyes filled up with water as I saw Larry stand up and kiss me. I could not let go of him and I couldn’t hold back the tears any longer.

"You have made me the happiest man in the world. Do you know that?"

"Shut up Mr. Larry and hold me."

Suddenly, I heard the whole restaurant clapping. Larry looked around and was shocked to see that all these people had been watching us.

"Do you want to go home?"

"Definitely."

That night, as we lay in bed we discussed when we should get married.

"Well, me personally, I want to marry you as soon as possibly Ally. I don’t care where we do it but as long as you and I are there then that is all that matters to me."

"Right, so how about tomorrow! Don’t worry, I am only kidding."

"Well, of course. Tomorrow would be too soon. We would have no time to prepare anything. How about the day after? Why are you laughing? I am being serious."

"What are you talking about? We can’t get married the day after tomorrow."

"Why not? Look, I have waited my whole life to find somebody like you and now that I have found you, I am not going to let you go. So, are we getting married the day after tomorrow?"

"Yes we are!"

His eyes lit up and he pulled me towards him. The kiss lingered for what felt like hours. We pulled away from each other and he smiled at me. My heart melted and I grabbed him and kissed him passionately. I doubt if I need to go into the details of what happened next. (As much as I want to, I don’t think that I will.)

The next morning I woke up and looked at Larry. He was fast asleep and snoring peacefully. I gently pulled his arm from around my waist and placed it on the bed. I got up slowly and made my way to Renee’s room. I was dying to tell her the news. As soon as she heard she nearly screamed.

"He asked you to marry him? Wow! Ally, I am so happy for you."

"You are?"

"Well of course I am. I know how much you two love each other. You belong together."

"Yes we do. Okay, so here is the thing. We are getting married tomorrow so we are going to have to plan everything today. Will you help us?"

"Of course I will. Tomorrow, well that sure is soon."

"I know. You don’t think that it’s too soon, do you?"

"Hell no! You have waited for this day long enough. So I have one thing to say to you. What the hell are you doing in my bed when you have a gorgeous fiancé waiting for you in yours?"

"Good point."

Larry woke up about a half an hour later and that was when we started to make the calls. I rang my parents and told them what was happening. They seemed happy for me but you know parents, you can never tell what they are really thinking.

Larry grabbed my hand.

" Where are we going to get married?"

"Oh my God. In all the excitement we didn’t think of where we were going to get married. What are we going to do? We won’t be able to book a church on such short notice and I don’t want to get married in a registry office."

"Hey Sweetie, don’t worry. Maybe we can get married here or at the firm or something. Don’t worry. We will find somewhere."

"The firm. That is perfect. It is big enough to hold all our friends and we know that Richard won’t mind us doing it there."

"Well then, that is settled. So you ring Richard and I’ll ring Jamie. I really hope that she lets Sam come."

"Of course she will let him come. She would not want to let her son miss his father’s wedding day, no matter how she feels towards me."

"I hope you are right. Okay here goes. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. By the way, where is Renee?"

"Oh, she is gone to sort out the food, decorations and the cake for the reception. Oh what about a honeymoon?"

"Don’t worry, it’s all settled. And don’t bother asking where we are going because it is a surprise."

The whole day was spent with us organizing everything. Larry had convinced Jamie to let Sam come and he would be arriving tomorrow morning. After I had rang the firm and told Richard and John what was happening, my apartment suddenly filled up with everyone. Ling offered to design my wedding dress and when I asked her if she would have it ready by tomorrow, she just growled and said "Of course." So she set to work with Elaine to figure out what I should wear.

After everything was arranged we all sat down and had some wine and believe me after the day we had, we needed it. Everyone soon began to leave. I turned to Larry and said,

"Well, now all we have to concentrate on is collecting Sam in the morning and then getting to the firm on time. So are you ready to go to bed?"

"Yes I am but I can’t stay here. I’m not supposed to sleep in the same place as the bride the night before the wedding."

"Well where are you going to go?"

"John said that he would let me crash at his place and then he would drive me to the airport tomorrow to collect Sam."

"Do you have to go?"

"Of course I do. I am very superstitious about things like this and I don’t want our marriage to be cursed. I gotta go. Well I will see you tomorrow when you become Mrs. Larry Paul."

"Okay sweetie. I will see you tomorrow."

And then he was out the door. I was missing him already but the girls decided that they would take my mind of it. Elaine suggested that we have one of our sleepovers and since I didn’t want to be alone tonight, I agreed. We spent the night talking about men and I spent the night talking about Larry. We all feel asleep on my bed and I am pretty sure that Elaine had kicked Nelle out of the bed after a while.

The next morning we woke up early so that Renee and Ling could get me ready while Elaine and Nelle fought about who got to wear what. After about thirty minutes Ling finally felt that I was ready to walk down that aisle. We only had another hour before I had to be at the firm and Renee and Ling were not ready yet. Once we were all ready we left the apartment and made our way to the firm. I told my parents that I would meet them there so thank God that I didn’t have my mother giving me lectures about the woes of marriage all the way there.

I got to the firm and saw Sam sitting at Elaine’s desk. When he saw me he rushed over and hugged me.

"Hi Ally. My dad is just getting ready in your office and he told me to guard it so that nobody can get in, not even you."

"Well it looks like you are doing a good job. Did you have a nice flight over here?"

"Yeah but my mom wants me to come home straight after the reception and I don’t want to leave then. I want to stay until you and my dad have to go and then I can go to the airport with you."

"Well we are going to have to see what we can do about that. Now you go back and guard the door while I go and wait in Ling’s office, okay?"

"Okay Ally."

I made my way to Ling’s office and waited there until I heard John at the door telling me that it was time.

"Okay then. Here goes nothing."

I took my fathers arm and he led me up the aisle. Larry turned around and when he saw me I was sure that I saw a tear fall down his cheek. When I reached to top, Larry looked at me and mouthed, "You look beautiful". The ceremony started and it was beautiful. I started to cry when Larry said his vows to me.

"I promise to love you for the end of time because without you there is no me. You are my life and my everything and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you."

The ceremony ended and the whole firm clapped and cheered. I turn to Larry and kissed him.

"You have made me the happiest woman on earth."

We had the reception back at the apartment. My mother did not seem to be that happy because she had never met Larry before and she thought that I was rushing into things. She got over it soon but still insisted on having a talk with Larry on her own.

Larry seemed more than happy to do so. He escorted my mother to our bedroom and as I watched him walk away, I felt sorry for him because I knew what my mother was like and now she would want to her Larry’s whole life story. I knew that they would not be finished for awhile so I turned around and headed for the kitchen where I saw Sam. He was on the phone to Jamie and I could tell that he was a little upset.

"But I don’t want to come home yet. I want to stay until the end of the party."

When Sam saw me, he looked up with those beautiful puppy dog eyes and asked me to tell Jamie that he could stay until the end of the party. I got on the phone and asked Jamie if Sam could stay a little longer. She did not seem happy to hear my voice and she mumbled something along the lines of "Congratulations" and then went straight into why Sam should come home now.

At that second, Larry grabbed the phone from my hand. How did he get away from my mother so fast? He began telling Jamie calmly that he wanted Sam to stay but I could tell by his expression that she was still saying no. Then Larry brought up the idea of Sam coming on our honeymoon with us. This was the first that I had heard about it but then again I didn’t even know where we were going.

Sam’s eyes lit up at the thought of coming with us. I knew that Larry and Jamie’s conversation was going to turn into a fight so I turned to Sam and asked,

"Hey buddy, would you dance with me?"

"Sure Ally, I would love to."

I took his hand and he led me to the living room. I picked him up and we began to dance. He had the same twinkle in his eyes that his father did but that twinkle soon faded when Sam heard Larry screaming at Jamie. At first I thought that he was going to cry but he didn’t.

He rested his head on my shoulder and mumbled something about going home soon. I felt so sorry for him but I knew that there was nothing that I could do that would make it better. I looked over at Larry and he had a smile on his face. Maybe Jamie had agreed. He hung up the phone and said "Thank you."

Then he walked over to Sam and me and whispered in Sam’s ear. Sam’s face lit up and he jumped from my arms to his fathers.

"I can come?"

"Yeah buddy, you can come."

Larry turned to me and kissed me.

"Do you mind?"

"Of course I don’t mind. I am actually looking forward to it."

"Can I have this dance, Mrs. Paul?"

"Yes, you can, Mr. Paul."

He held me in his arms and we danced.

"I can’t believe that I ever left you. How did I survive without seeing your beautiful face for so long?"

I looked around and noticed that everyone was staring at us. Elaine and my mother were crying.

"That reminds me. How the hell did you get away from my mother so fast? I was expecting her to keep you all night."

"Well, she asked me to talk about my life. So I talked about you. You are my life Ally and without you I would have absolutely nothing."

"I love you."

"I love you too."

"We should probably get ready to leave."

"Yeah we should."

We packed in the bedroom and Larry helped Sam pack his clothes.

"Wait a minute. There is something that I have to do. Sam, are you ready for our surprise?"

"Sure I am daddy."

"What is going on?" I asked.

"Just a little surprise."

"Okay, I am ready", we heard Sam shout in from the living room.

"It’s time for our last dance."

Larry took my hand in his and led me to the living room. He took me in his arms and then nodded to Sam who was sitting at the piano. Sam began to play and I recognized the song instantly. It was our song. The whole room stopped and stared as Larry began to sing to me.

Chances are you’ll find me
Somewhere on your road tonight.
Seems I always end up driving by
Ever since I’ve known
It just seems you’re on my way
All the rules of logic don’t apply.
I long to see you in the night
Be with you till morning light

My eyes filled up with tears as he finished the song. The whole room started to clap when he was finished and Larry spun around in shock. I don’t think he realized that everyone was watching us. He took a bow and then started to cheer on Sam who mimicked his father perfectly and took a bow also.

Soon it was time to leave and so I said goodbye to everyone and then we left to go to the airport. Larry had rented a limo to take us there. It was amazing.

"So, where exactly are we going?"

"I told you, it’s a surprise."

Then he leaned in and kissed me. It was so sweet and so perfect. It was the best way to end my perfect day.

Larry put him arm around me and motioned for me to put me head on his shoulder and then the three of us rode off into the sunset.
