(:This takes place right after the season finale, Renee and Jackson are still together:)
10 minutes later: John walked into the unisex to find a sick Ally hovering over his toilet. She looked up and said " Sorry...I didn't make it to my stall." John sat down beside her and began to rub her back. Ally threw up a few more times before she felt strong enough to leave the bathroom. "Thanks for staying with me John." Ally said appreciatively. "I'm sure that wasn't a pleasant sight." John smiled, "Your welcome." And with that Ally and John both left for their offices. Ally sat down by her desk and thought, "John is so nice to me. I don't deserve to have a great friend like him. All I do is sit around and mope." The rest of the day was kind of a blur. Elaine stopped by and asked Ally if she wanted some Pepto- Bismal and Mark could be seen outside her door photocopying papers. He was humming a tune to himself. Mark seemed satisfied with his life. Ally wished she could be in his position. Suddenly an idea came to her mind. 10 minutes later: "Ally, What's this all about? I'm the only one who's allowed to call surprise meetings around here." Richard whined. "Does this have anything to do with money?" The whole firm was walking into their meeting area and sitting down. Ally stood where Richard would normally, and he took her seat. Once everyone was settled Ally began..." Ahem... I..er.. I know I've been moping around here this week do to the absence of...Larry." It caused Ally a slight pang to say his name. "Yes well... I finally discovered what it will take for me to be happy...uh... happier." Ally paused. "And this break through in medication would be...?" Ling said sarcastically. "Well..." This was going to cause Ally another pang to say but she went on. "I don't ever want to hear or talk about Larry Paul again okay? No one even mention his name ever again. I want to block him out of my life forever so I can forget about how wonderful it is...was to be with him." After a long silence Ally said "Got it?" Everyone nodded (except Ling who rolled her eyes). Ally glared at her, and with an exasperated sigh Ling nodded. "All right" Ally said in a somewhat cheerful tone. The next week: Things were going well for Ally Mcbeal. She had won 2 cases and no-one had mentioned Larry at all. Everyone, including Ling, was afraid Ally would bite their heads off. Ally was having a great time without Larry... or so it seemed. Every time any Cage & Fish worker would ask Ally how she was doing, she would go into a fit of giggles and skip away. But she would always stop frolicking when they had turned away. Everyone assumed she had completely forgotten about Larry... they were wrong. The next night: "Ally? Hey Ally? I'm back from my vacation with Jackson!" Renee bustled though the door with her luggage and Jackson came up behind her. "Maybe she's sleeping, as its 2:00 in the morning and Ally doesn't seem the nocturnal type." Renee nodded foolishly, kissed Jackson good-bye, and walked to her room. She got into her pajamas and just as she was falling asleep she heard something. Ally was sobbing hysterically in her room. Renee ran into Ally's room and found her head pressed into her pillow. Renee sat down beside her. " Uhh... Ally?" Ally awoke with a start. "Wha... who...huh?" Renee smiled painfully toward Ally and said " What’s the matter?" Ally wiped her eyes, sat up and said, "I uh...stubbed my toe?" So far Ally liked the idea of everyone one else thinking that Ally loved her life. Renee raised one of her eyebrows and said "Stubbed your toe?" Ally looked up, giggled foolishly, and said, "Yup, pretty weird huh?" Renee kept her strange facial expressions and said "Especially weird as you are wrapped up extremely tight in your blankets and you haven't been out of bed sense I've been home or I would have heard you." Ally started again "Well you know, it just kinda happened. You know the way..." But Renee wouldn't let her finish, " You all of a sudden got over Larry!" Ally jumped off the bed. " I made you promise not to remind me of Lar...him. And for your information I'm more than just over Larry, I'm completely over him!" Renee rolled her eyes. "Yeah, head over heels for him. Ally were you crying about him?" Ally got back in bed and slid under the covers. Renee barely heard her say "Sort of". Ten minutes later: "I don't want to go!" Ally wailed. "You can't make me!" Renee smiled while saying "You wanna bet? Ally couldn't argue with Renee, she was a lot bigger and quite capable of pushing Ally down a road to take a walk. " Renee, it's 2:45, what are people going to think when they see us outside, they'll call the police, they'll say we're prowlers..." Renee wouldn't let Ally finish as she pushed her from behind, out the door and to the nearest park. Ally was extremely embarrassed as Renee wouldn't let her get out of her pajamas. They would have been the strangest sight walking down the street. Never the less, Renee thought Ally needed a good walk in the park. 5 Minutes Later: This was the worst night Ally had ever had. As she and Renee walked in silence she started to hallucinate Larry everywhere. First he was on the bench and he kept muttering to himself, "I'll be back." Then Ally spotted him on a fountain. He was singing Every Breath You Take. Ally stared at him but he would never look directly at her. As Ally walked by a lake, Larry was there rowing a boat and saying " Does forever work for you?" Ally even spotted Larry in a tree saying, "She's it." The last image Ally say before breaking down into tears was Larry standing right in front of her. He was staring at her and singing Chances Are. Ally stopped and Renee urged her to keep walking but Ally was blocking Renee out. Her roommate thought Ally was nuts staring at the air but Ally was listening. She was listening to Larry sing. When Larry finished he said," I've never loved anyone as much as I love you. And I'm only at the beginning of loving you." All the hallucinations disappeared and Ally fell to the ground in convulsions of tears. Renee sat there trying to pick Ally up when something horrible happened. Ally had a heart attack and she laid motionless on the ground. One day Later: John rushed in to find Ally pale and immobile in a hospital bed. "Oh Ally!" he thought while staring at her peaceful yet eerie state. Renee could be heard consulting with the doctor. "Heart attack...and now she's in a coma? Oh my..any chance of her living?" The doctor's shrill voice rang out. " Well, in normal cases but she's in critical condition, I mean she did have an extremely massive heart attack. But... um well yes of course there's a chance." The doctor handed Renee some things that had been in Ally's pocket, her address book, wallet, etc. Renee was shocked. "Well, why are you giving these things to me, she's not dead yet?" The doctor sighed and said," The best thing for her right now is to be with the people she loves. Her family and friends. She can still hear the people around her, or so we think. Why don't you use the book to call some people she knows, to tell them the news, then join that man in there." The doctor motioned to John. 20 minutes later: Renee had called selected people in the phone book whose last names started with A- O. When she got to P she let out a long sigh. Larry Paul's named had been drowned in little pink hearts, obviously drawn by Ally. Renee knew this would be her hardest call to make. Renee dialed Larry's number and waited for him to pick up. She finally heard his familiar voice. "Hello?" Larry sounded extremely tired as it was still early morning in Detroit. Renee spoke immediately, "Larry, Ally's had a heart attack come quick!" Larry sat shocked. He also remembered Renee's voice and said, "I'll be right there!" Renee hung up and thought she had made enough calls for tonight. When she walked in Ally's room, all of Cage&Fish was there. The doctor was taking blood tests while most of the firm was crying. Ling was sitting down away from everyone, tapping her foot. 7 hours later: It was now 10:00 in the morning. The firm had fallen asleep by Ally and one by one were waking up. As soon as Ling had lifted her head Larry rushed in. "Wha... where?" But his questions were answered almost immediately. Ally was lying on the hospital bed. Larry would of thought she was dead if he hadn't seen the heartbeat monitor moving up and down. Richard was delighted, " Ahh... finally Ally has someone else to stay with her. We can all go back to work. We know Larry means more to her than all of us combined. Come on, Ally will be happy to know if....I mean when she wakes up that Cage&Fish has been running smoothly and that we all have been making money. Now off we go!" Everyone, including Renee followed Richard out. They all had exasperated looks on their faces. Larry stood facing Ally. For a while he was silent. The first thing he could get out of his mouth was, "It's me." Larry pulled a chair up next to Ally and sighed. "Sorry." Larry picked up Ally's hand and started to caress it gently. "I never should have left you. I mean especially with a note. It was the easiest way for me to leave but the hardest way for you. I'm sorry I was being so selfish. I was just afraid I would ruin your life forever." After this a nurse walked in and asked if Larry was staying overnight. Larry looked up at the nurse, nodded, and waited while she brought him sleeping robes and a pillow. Larry had begun to fall asleep next to Ally when he remembered something. "Oh Ally, Sam says he misses you...just thought you'd like to know. 4 hours Later: "Dad, Dad wake up!" Larry opened his eyes to see his smiling son waving enthusiastically back at him. "Sammy, how'd you get here?" Sam rolled his eyes at his dad. "An airplane, haven't we been through this before?" Larry got up. "Does your mother know?" Sam continued to roll his eyes and then he stopped. "I...left a note...isn't that what you'd do...dad?" Larry looked at his son. Had he been talking to Ally? "What's that supposed to mean?" Larry asked. Sam put his hand on his hip. "How's Ally doing?" Sam asked in concern. "Not too good...but the doctors think she can hear us. That nurse over there said the damage from the heart attack isn't too bad, but comas can last a....long time." Sam looked down. He knew his Dad loved Ally more than anything. Sam couldn't stand the silence "Hey Ally!" Sam said cutely. "You'd better get well soon, your driving my dad nuts being away." Larry sighed. "Oh Sammy. You can't stay here." "I know, I called Renee. She says we can stay at Ally's place." Larry smiled. Reaching into his pocket he pulled out some money. "Take a cab to Ally's okay? I want to stay with her." Larry motioned towards Ally. Sam smiled "Okay dad. But don't stay up too late!" Larry smiled. "Bye Kiddo!" He sighed as Sam left the room. He had a great kid. 3 hours later: "What?" Larry woke with a start. Ally's monitor started beeping loudly. A nurse rushed in. She said Ally was still okay but she just needed to be under higher maintenance. Larry walked with Ally's hospital bed. As she was being hooked up to a new room of equipment John came in. Larry looked up sadly and put on a forced smile. "Hey John. How's it going?" John also put on a smile. "Fine I guess." After a moment of silence John spoke up. "You really hurt her Larry. I mean I don't get how she can love a person who brings her so much pain. You killed her emotionally when you left her." John knew he was being extremely rude but he didn't care. Larry was hurting one of his best friends. Larry sat almost as motionless as Ally. He looked up at John. It looked like he was about to cry. John couldn't stand to be in Larry's presence so he said good-bye to Ally and left. 1 hour later: Larry was sobbing into his pillow. A lot of lights had been turned off. He closed the hospital room door so no-one would hear him cry. Larry began to hum. At first he had no idea what he was humming, all he wanted to do was to forget about everything. His humming started to change to a familiar tune. One that Larry could never get out of his head. He started to sing along now...
Somewhere one your road tonight...
30 minutes later: "Sir, are you okay?" Larry was starting to realize where he was now. "Uhh..." The doctor smiled. "You fainted sir. Right after I told you your...er... friend was pregnant with what I suppose is your baby." Larry got up and looked at Ally. He nearly fainted again. Her eyes were open. "She seems okay and the embryo looks fine... but all she says is 'yes'." The doctor spoke tenderly not knowing if either of the people in this room could handle anything out of the ordinary. Larry hugged Ally and she kissed him. Ally said one thing to Larry, "Yes!" Larry smiled and kissed Ally again. One day later: Ally was back home from the hospital and everyone was at her house. Ally was talking a lot and was particularly glad to recall the few things she heard while in the Hospital. "I heard a tapping." She remembered and Ling spoke, "Oh that was me!" Ally also recollected a little voice saying 'hi' to her and to 'wake up.' Sam was happy to point out that it was him. Ally also recalled Larry proposing. That was the clearest thing I heard... I mean...wait...did someone sing to me?" Larry raised his hand. She kissed him and once more said, "I heard that too." Larry heard her whisper in his ear "chances are." With all the excitement of Ally's Awakening, Larry had forgotten to tell everyone the good news. "Oh and yeah... Ally's pregnant. At this the whole room burst into cheers. Ally nearly fainted and everyone grabbed her. No one wanted to see her back in a coma. After Ally got over the first shock of being pregnant, she started to cry, everything was perfect. Sam seemed to realize what had just happened and screamed " Oh boy, a brother!" Ally chimed in, "Or a sister!" It's the times when your friends are in need that brings out the best in people...and Larry Paul brought out his best.
