In the year of 306 A.D. a very important thing happened to Constantine, he was chosen by his father's soldiers to be emperor! Why? You ask? Let me explain the time here, for about 100 years there was a time when the soldiers picked the emperor. Anyways, Constantine was thrilled. He didn't build "the world" in his reign, but his people liked him nonetheless. Some of the things he did were: he rebuilt Byzantium (now Istanbul)- (renamed it Constanople, and made it his capitol), built churches, made alliances, and more. Overall he was a pretty good guy. In fact he was such a great ruler his people made an arch for him. He reigned 31 years and when he died he gave his empire to (Me! kidding:) his sons, Constantius, Constans, and Constantine II. |
