The sun shone across the desk in front of Terri. She sighed and shoved some paperwork under a pile of files which were long overdue to be revised. Today was going to be different, perhaps having to look after the new nurse would mean that she could take her mind off Mitch, and the fact that she had made a horrible mistake, one which haunted her every waking moment.
"Oh my god!" squeaked Jodi "Can you believe the attitude and she chews like a cow". "Keep it down" Connor glared at her and Jared giggled to himself. Mitch raced through the reception area and Jodi casually asked him "So...have you seen the new nurse?" Mitch looked around "no, where?" "In there" Jodi pointed to Terri's office with a big grin. Mitch shrugged and walked down the corridor. Luke came screaming around the corner and collided with Connor "Hey settle down Luke, it is only work" Connor scowled, "maybe to some" came the reply. Connor rolled his eyes, today was not a good day and it was looking to get worse.
The door of Terri's office opened and Jodi and Jared peered around the corner to see Mindy cursing and carrying on about the size of her uniform. "It makes me look fat, I can't wear it" she exclaimed. Terri was losing her patience and it was still only 9.30am, "well I'm sorry but either you wear it or you don't work here" she said with force. Mindy shrugged and walked out to the reception area. She started picking up people's files and turned to Jodi and asked "so where do I start?" Jodi just looked at her in shock. Mindy promptly turned around and entered room 3 which contained an elderly woman named Bessie. She nearly fell out of her bed when she saw Mindy, and even moreso when she spoke to her. "So how you doing today old kodger?" Mindy picked up her chart and examined it. Bessie stared intensely at the young nurse, she was furious. Connor came racing in and grabbed Mindy's arm "can we have a word Mindy?" "sure baby" she replied. Connor was disgusted, he took her into the corridor and explained "you can't just go in to people's rooms, we have a system here and you have to stick with how it works, ok?" "sure" Mindy nodded with a grin on her face. Connor turned and let out a big sigh, what was the ward coming to?
Mitch was exhausted, it had been a long night with Lucy and Rose not getting much sleep, which consequently impacted on the amount of sleep he had had. He went straight for the jug when he noticed Mindy sitting at the table picking dirt out of her fingernails, he hesitated "hi, uh..you must be Mindy, the new nurse" she looked up and Mitch held our his hand "I'm Mitch Stevens, one of the doctors" "hi" came the half hearted reply. "Cuppa?" Mitch asked and Mindy didn't even raise her head. Mitch made his coffee and quickly left the tea room to join the growing discussion about Mindy at the ward reception. "She isn't that social, she doesn't even smile" Jodi was saying to everyone "maybe she is shy" Mitch piped in. "Shy she is not" Connor said confidently. Mindy walked out of the tea room and the crowd dispursed.
Kylie was attending to Mr Grayson who was about to have surgery when she was joined by Mindy. Mr Grayson looked up from his bed in horror as the chewing mouth reached over to take his blood pressure. He looked at Kylie for some support, she squeezed his hand and smiled "it will be ok". Kylie directed Mindy to remove some urine waste and Mindy just stood with her hands on her hips. "Now" Kylie ordered, "do it yourself if you are that concerned" Mindy replied. Kylie was shocked, she pulled Mindy aside and gave her a lecture "I am in charge here and I give the orders and you follow them out. I try to be reasonable and I expect some respect, either do it or your time here may only be short lived" Kylie turned as the fist swung and collected her in the jaw, she fell hard hitting her head on the floor. Mindy stormed out of the room.
"Kylie, Kylie" Connor and Terri were trying to wake her. Kylie felt numb and looked into the blurring reflection of Connor leaning down over her. "What happened?" she winced with pain. "Um" Connor tried to use tact "you were punched" Kylie frowned and felt her head pounding, she realised that she was lying on a bed, she felt dizzy and sick. "Where is Jared?" she asked softly. "He'll be back soon" Terri conforted her. Luke walked in the door and over to Kylie "what did you do? Give one of the nurses more than she could take huh?" he joked. Kylie tried to manage a smile. Luke checked her over and told her she was right to go home. Jared appeared in the doorway and raced to give Kylie a hug, "I have been so worried" he exclaimed. "Take her home Jared" Luke said, "and take the rest of the day off yourself" Terri added, "we will be right here".
Terri called Von to see if she was available to relieve Jared, she realised that it was a mistake letting him go, she was short staffed and Mindy had been given a warning, she was on last strings. Von reluctantly agreed and started on her way. Connor was cursing that Mindy hadn't been dismissed completely, he couldn't stand her. And Jodi was complaining that the chewing was driving her up the wall. Everyone was working on a short fuse and the day was just getting busier.
Von arrived, clocked in and looked at the roster. She started immediately filling in as Jared. She was just filling in a chart when she felt a hand grab a shoulder, she turned to face Mindy who chewed in her face. Von took a step back "what the hell do you think your are doing honey? Mindy asked sarcastically. "I work here" explained Von, "and you?" "I work here too" Mindy said as she turned to walk away. "You would be better off in a paddock chewing like that" Von said under her breath.
"Von, Von" Jodi called her. When Von got to where Jodi was standing, Jodi asked slowly "have you seen the new nurse?" Von let out a disgusted sigh and nodded "unfortunately" she said. The next two hours remained calm and nothing happened which was a surprise to Terri who was still fearing the worst.
"Bron, Ben how you doing?" Connor asked as the ambulance officers walked to the reception. "Oh just bringing you a present" said Bron smiling "she will be up soon and she is a gem" Ben said sarcastically. "Great" Von sighed, "another one to add to the collection". Ben looked at her puzzled. Mindy was screaming at a patient and Connor nodded towards the door. "Whoa" said Bron "someone got up on the wrong side of the bed" Terri went in and dragged Mindy out of the room "you just don't speak to people like that Mindy" Mindy huffed and walked to the tea room. "Check it out" Bron was in hysterics. Ben nudged her, "don't be so rude" he laughed. Jodi was laughing too "she is like a loose cannon, she has already punched Kylie" "no way" Bron cried. Jodi nodded. "We just have to collect some paperwork but we will be back in a minute, is it ok if we leave these here?" Ben asked as he dumped some files and odd bits and pieces. "Sure" Terri said.
Luke was smiling to himself after having performed a very successful operation in front of his collegaues and a professor from a visiting hospital. He walked past the ward reception area and everyone was cluttered talking about the new nurse who was causing Terri's hair to fall out. Luke walked past and entered the tea room. He stopped dead and closed the door. In the corner was Mindy hiding from everyone and obviously believing that she was alone. Next to her was one of the lock-up boxes of drugs for the ward. Luke approached cautiously only to see her injecting a substance into her arm. "Hey" Luke said calmly "are you finished your shift?" Mindy turned abruptly "who the hell are you?" Luke was shocked, he crouched down "I'm Luke, I work as a surgeon here" "well mind your business Luke" came the reply. Luke took a different approach "you would lose your job for this" Mindy turned and faced him "you wouldn't tell" "You are taking drugs while you are meant to be working, you are putting us all in danger, damn right I will tell". Mindy got up onto her knees "not if I could give you whatever you wanted" she sad teasingly. Luke looked at her, she was pretty and it had been a while, but what was it worth. "I don't know that you could" he said, "try me" invited Mindy. "Well not here" Luke said. "It's ok, I will find you" Mindy said with a grin and packed the drugs away and slipped them into the cupboard so no-one could see. Luke walked out of the room and Mindy picked herself up and brushed herself off. Luckily her sleeves covered the track marks so no-one would be any wiser except Luke. She smiled as she thought of stripping him, he wasn't bad looking either and he could get her out of trouble.
Connor was complaining to Terri and Von because Mindy was not carrying out all her duties. "Give her a chance Connor, she is obviously very new to this" Terri said calmly "yeah and not very good" Jodi piped in. "Keep out of it Jod" Connor said nicely. Mindy walked past and Von looked her up and down "well I never" she laughed to herself. She walked into the reception area and knocked off a pile of files and bits and pieces off the bench "shit" she exclaimed "who's junk is this?" "um that is Bron and Ben's, they are coming to get it soon" Jodi said laughing at Von scrambling on the floor trying to pick the stuff up. She finally had it all off the floor when she turned and knocked it again. Jodi burst into laughter and Von sighed "Jodi please?" she asked with a begging smile on her face. "No worries" Jodi said still laughing as she picked up the stuff from the floor.
Mindy was walking down the deserted corridor, everyone was busily working away. She noticed the door to the storage room slightly ajar, no-one goes in here she thought so she moved closer to the door to explore. Inside she saw Luke reaching up for a box of surgical gloves, he was alone. Mindy thought to herself, no better opportunity, I mean she did owe him. She pushed quietly through the door and locked it behind her. The lights were dim and Luke saw her just before she reached him. "What are you doing here?" he asked. "I believe I need to prove that I have what you want" Mindy said sexily. Luke tried to shrug her off but deep down he had the urge. He turned and faced her "so what have you got for me?" he asked.
Mindy looked him in the eyes and slowly unbuttoned the top of her dress. Luke could feel himself getting excited, it felt as though the temperature had soared in degrees in the room. Mindy let the dress slip off her shoulders to reveal a lacy black bra. Luke felt himself drooling over her. He took a step closer "no, not yet" she held him back. She slowly pulled the dress over the rest of her body and kicked off her shoes revealing matching lacy panties. She looked so sexy, Luke was finding it very hard to control himself. She took a step closer to him and grabbed his belt "oooooh" she sighed "you're hard" Luke smiled. She slowly undid his belt and unzipped his pants. Luke felt himself shivering with excitement and the pulse in his groin was pounding. Mindy slipped his pants off to his ankles and bent down and undid his shoes and slipped them off. She removed his pants from his ankles and kissed his legs all the way up to his groin, Luke felt as though he was going to lose control, "please stop teasing me, I need it now" he cried, Mindy smiled and started unbuttoning his shirt. Luke reached across and undid the lacy bra and caressed her breasts. Mindy sighed "mmmmm" she whispered.
Luke and Mindy stood there in just underwear, with Mindy minus her bra and they were both hot and excited. Mindy casually ran a finger across Luke's groin and he let out a pleasurable groan. There was a key pushed into the lock and the door swung open to reveal Connor and Terri at the door. Luke just froze and Mindy squealed reaching for her clothes. "What the..." Connor started. "In my office, both of you" Terri screamed "once you have made yourself decent again". The door slammed shut and Luke looked at Mindy "thanks, there goes my job too slut". Mindy just shrugged and re-dressed into her uniform.
There was no surprises in what Terri was going to say to her, she was out of there. She was upset, not because of the job but because sex with Luke had been so good. She had been hoping that it could become a regular thing. Luke was let off with a disciplinary warning and suspended for afew days, enough to completely humiliate him. Mindy was angry, why did everyone always have to screw things up for her?? She went to the tea room to collect her stuff while everyone went on with their work but she could hear the sniggers and giggles behind her back. Bron and Ben were in the tea room laughing about an earlier job and Mindy walked in furious. Bron left the room to see Connor before they left the hospital. Ben continued to make his coffee, still giggling about Bron. Mindy thought he was laughing at her. "Think it's funny do you?" she said loudly, Ben turned and faced her "Oh sorry, we haven't met, I'm Ben" he held out his hand and it was ignored. "You probably screw your partner every day too" she snarled, Ben just looked at her, he hadn't even heard about her meeting with Luke. He was about to pick up his cup and leave when he felt something job him in his back. He tried to turn but it jabbed harder, "come with me, I have a lesson for you to learn" Mindy spoke with an evil tone.
Ben obliged and Mindy told him to walk to the disabled bathroom down the hall way with her closely behind him. No-one noticed them, which was what Mindy had in mind. Once locked in the bathroom Mindy faced Ben, "do you know how it feels to have people laughing at you?" she asked. Ben shook his head, "why are they laughing?" he asked. "Don't play dumb with me spunk" she said "now it is your turn for them to laugh at you" Mindy made Ben strip of his uniform until he was naked and she took his clothes, every piece of toilet paper and the hand towels with her as she left the hospital. She threw them all, along with her uniform, into the bin at the hospital entrance.
Ben was left in the disabled toilet yelling for help with no cover other than his own hands. Eventually, when it got too much, Ben finally poked his head out of the disabled toilet and everyone came running, as the whole ward had been searching for him. "Ben" Bron called and pulled the door right open to reveal a naked and very embarrased Ben. Bron started laughing, and was followed by the staff and even Ben himself. Ben was offered a blanket and a spare uniform. Everyone went their ways.
Terri was walking down the deserted corridor when she heard footsteps. Mitch caught up to her and put his arm around her "what a day eh?" he said, she just smiled, what else could you do?
