The Christmas Shift

Connor looked at the list to see who was working the Christmas day 7 to 3pm shift. When he saw his name along with Bron’s and Jared’s he said “Christmas lunch never seems like Christmas lunch when it’s the day after”!.  “Why is it that it always works out this way”.  Anyway who is cooking THE turkey this year, Brons definitely not, she murdered it last year!

Luke “haha murdered is an understatement, unrecogniseable”

Bron – “yeah well who knows what a cooked turkey should look like” she laughed.  “All Turkeys have their individuality to think of” “Anyway I’d hope your carving skills were better in the operating theatre than they are in the kitchen.”

Jared – “look Connor be grateful that you’re not out there fighting the bushfires, or sick in hospital over Christmas.  Imagine what Christmas means to those poor people.  At least you will be able to go home tomorrow and sit down with your friends and eat like it is Christmas Day!”

Connor – yeah mother jared!  thanks for the lecture! I think I’ll just go and grumble to myself next time! Saves getting a lecture from you.

Kylie appears on the ward and sees Connor walking off like a sad dog. “Whats wrong with Connor, wheres his Christmas spirit gone?”

Bron “Oh you know Jared just gave him a lecture about thinking of those less off on Christmas day and hes gone to sulk”!

Kylie “Be nice to him Jared, hes not as thoughtful as you but hes still one of us and we all have to stick together”!

Von sees everyone standing around “righto everyone there are patients around who would like a little quiet” “I could just imagine you all as kids in libraries annoying the poor librarian.”

Bron “I never went to a library – I had better things to do”

Ben arrives to pick up Bron as its nearing the end of her shift.  He hears the end of the conversation and adds “ I bet you did”!!

Bron “ Okay we’re off” “Anything you want us to pick up for Thursday (Fake Christmas day)?”
