Alone
by Katie

The sun brightly shone upon Terri as she waited outside. Von on one side and Margaret, the other. Her eyes were glistening brightly as her dress swayed calmly with each breath of lightly perfumed air. Her veil lay delightfully upon her hair, shimmering ever so fluently and as she blinked her eyelashes delicately touched her precious soft skin. High heels had been placed on her diminutive feet, which fitted the dress outstandingly. Von had been sweetly talking to Terri but her presence was somewhere much more enchanting. She didn’t want to think about anything else apart from the one whom she loved and that man was the man who was unable to make it in time. This wedding was about to proceed, and he wasn’t there to stop it. Terri returned to reality, arriving with all eyes attached to her. The music began to play as she stood at the start of the isle about to make the largest mistake of her life. Making her way down the aisle, she thought about what life had in store for her. With a flash she was already down to where Malcolm was standing. Terri stood there, stunned, not realizing what she was doing. Without words Terri told Malcolm what she was thinking, what she really wanted, everything Malcolm didn’t want to know. Malcolm, looking unfathomable within Terri’s eyes, took a deep breath. Everyone in the church was staring. He let out a sigh.

"I thought I could trust you, Terri Sullivan." With that, he made his way out…out forever. The whispers of the church deafened Terri, couldn't believe she did it, was it what she had said? But it couldn’t have been. For she hadn’t said anything. Terri knew what she had done to him was wrong. Breaking in a heap to the ground she began to sob, yet no one seemed to notice. Her cries became louder as more people left. Within moments the church was deserted, all except for her. Lying on the cold floor, head buried in her dress she didn’t want to know what would happen with Malcolm, what her family would think, not even where Von was. She just wanted to be alone…forever. Tears shed from her eyes, as mascara ran down her cheeks, blackening her face, blackening her heart, blackening her world. Her deep breaths echoed throughout her ears. When all was almost lost, warmth made its way through her body as footsteps approached her. Reaching down for her shoulder, just by touch she knew who it was. Opening her eyes, a hand made contact to her face, wiping away those heartbroken tears.

"I told you I’d come."

And all the worries in the world began to evaporate….
