Bron & Ben

The Ambo & His Tadpole

"Here she is, our very own tadpole," these words saw the beginning of an era for All Saints: a beautiful perfect relationship both onscreen and off, a phenomenal pairing the fans went crazy for, a love that will last forever.

5 years ago Ben Markham was married to Stephanie, unhappily longing for the family he always wanted.  Then suddenly Bron Craig walked into his life and it changed for the better.

Ben's marriage to Stephanie was unraveling fast, and his attraction to Bron was growing by the second.  After a series of dramatic situations the pair found themselves involved in, Ben told Bron that he was falling in love with her - and the pair shared their first kiss!!!!

Bron was convinced that Ben was only falling in love with her because his marriage to Steph had hit a rough patch and she told him to go back to her.  Ben did go back to Steph and it appeared that they had gotten their marriage back on track, when tragedy struck.  Ben & Bron were called out to an accident in which Steph had been involved and in which she later died.

Naturally Ben took the death of his wife hard, and began to console himself with the bottle.  All through his grief there was one thing Ben could count on - Bron.  He found his feelings for her had began to re-surface, stronger and more un-deniably than before.  Bron by this stage was involved with Dr Luke Forlano, but it didn't work out and they broke up.  Paving the way for our Ben & Bron to finally get their act together.

On a hoax call-out to an abandoned warehouse where Bron was almost killed, Ben finally said the words we had all been waiting so long to hear, "I'm not losing you…..I love you!"

Terrified she was going to die, Bron told Ben that she loved him too - then later took it back and told Ben that she was quitting the ambulance service.

Ben wasn't giving up, he knew that Bron was the only one for him and he spent the next 6 months chasing Bron around, only to have her push him away again.

It wasn't until Bron admitted that she had been sexually abused as a child that she finally let Ben in.

After a few more episodes of dancing around their feelings for one another, Bron finally felt ready to take the next step in her relationship with Ben, only to have Ben pull away from her.

Ben had met Harvey Swayne, a widower like him, Harvey was unable to get over the death of his wife.  Ben felt guilty for not only be able to get over Steph's death so quickly, but to fall in love with someone else so fully and completely.  So Ben told Bron it wasn't the right time for them, and Bron ran away heartbroken.  Luckily Ben came to his senses, and a beautiful relationship was born.

Although blissfully in love with each other, things certainly weren't any easier for Ben & Bron once they were together.

While on duty one day, Ben was struck with a brick on the side of the head, which cause him to bleed in the brain.  He underwent risky brain surgery, and thankfully pulled through - more in love with Bron than ever.

This hurdle overcome, Ben was anxious to move ahead in his relationship with Bron, so he asked her to move in with him. It was never clear why, but Bron turned him down - again.

Meanwhile Bron had befriended former patient Lyle Slater, helping him to find a job on the ward.  The two became very close.

One night, while waiting for Ben, Bron was attacked by the rapist who had been terrorising the hospital for months.  Luckily Bron managed to get away, and Ben vowed to find the rapist.

Bron, who had been having trouble sleeping since the attack, went to the staff clinic for some sleeping pills - only to discover the identity of her attacker - Dr Richard Bird!

Desperate not to be caught, Bird kidnapped Bron with the intent of killing her.  Lyle, seeing his friend Bron was in danger, found Ben, who rushed to her rescue, nearly killing Bird in the process.

Nearly losing Bron twice in as many weeks, only served to bring the couple closer than ever.  And on November 13^th 2001 - 1 year to the day since Ben told Bron that he loved her - Ben & Bron became engaged!

Wanting his proposal to Bron to be perfect, Ben planned a romantic picnic for the 2 of them - only to have his plans thwarted when Bron found the ring!  Becoming impatient for Ben to 'Pop the question' Bron finally could take no more and bet him to the punch.

Bron: "Marry me - I can't wait for you, you're making me nervous!"

Ben: "Yes, yes of course I will"

Ecstatic, the couple joyfully shared their news with everyone and began looking forward to their life together.

Tragically their joy was short lived when Bron and Lyle were involved in train de-railing during an earthquake.  Trapped and bleeding, Bron drew on all of her nursing skills to help the other injured passengers.  Seeing the roof about to cave in, Lyle pushed his beloved Bron out of the carriage - just as the roof caved in, trapping him.  Despite Ben's best efforts to rescue him, Lyle later died in hospital.

Bron took the death of Lyle hard, and withdrew from everyone - including Ben.

Desperately needing some time alone, Bron told Ben she was taking some time off to travel - alone. 

Hurt and confused, Ben agreed and the two shared a heartbreaking goodbye at the airport.

Ben missed Bron like crazy during the two months she was gone and was anxious for Bron to come home so they could finally become husband and wife.

When Bron finally returned home and they were joyfully reunited, it seemed Ben (and the legion of Ben & Bron fans) would finally get his wish - until Bron confessed that she had been unfaithful while she was away.

Devastated Ben left without even speaking to Bron and cancelled the wedding.

Desperately unhappy Ben befriended Bron's collegue, single mum Paula Morgan.  Finding some comfort in spending time with Paula's son Max, Ben soon became involved with Paula cough cough romantically, after watching Bron share a kiss with her best friend Charlotte Beaumont.

Despite his relationship with Paula (whora as known to many Bron & Ben fans), Ben couldn't forget Bron.  And when they were both held hostage and Bron was almost killed (again), Ben admitted that he was still very much in love with Bron.

One day during an argument, Ben was stabbed by a former patient.  Critically injured and suffering a near fatal blood clot, Ben finally admitted to Paula that Bron was the one he wanted to be with.  Bravely Paula went and told Bron, who raced to Ben's side.

Finally 2 weeks later it was the episode fans had been waiting 4 months to see - Bron and Ben got back together and got engaged again!

Although there has been many ups and downs in their relationship Ben and Bron's love has always survived and continued to grow stronger and stronger.  And it just keeps getting better and better.
