Alison: Oh, my gosh. What are you doing here? I thought your work here was done, and I didn't know if maybe you were, like, going back up to heaven or wherever you angels go.
Rafe: Wrong again.
Alison: Does that mean you get to stay here on earth?
Rafe: A little while.
Alison: You do? Oh, that's great! Oh, I'm so happy.
Alison: I was a little out of control with the whole Valerie and Hope thing. You know? I mean, I really could have blown it, but you sort of sat me down and talked me through it and made me stop and think, you know? And so I sort of like to think of myself a little more like you. I mean, I'm not like an angel or anything like that. I mean, I'm really -- I'm far from it. Really far. But, you know, I'm a lot less selfish. And I do have more faith -- faith that, you know, good will always win in the end, just like you say.
Rafe: You didn't learn that from me. It's just part of who you are. You're a special person.
Alison: Thank you. But I sort of like to think that maybe it rubbed off on me a little bit, you know.
Rafe: Yeah, well, maybe you rubbed off a little on me, too.
Alison: Actually, I have to admit, all of the credit for my change of heart goes to Rafe.
Jamal: That guy's made a big impression on you, hasn't he?
Alison: Yeah. You know, he's very special.
Jamal: Right. Special. I bet you he thinks you're real special, too, huh?
Alison: Oh, don't. That is terrible.
Jamal: Yeah, I've seen you guys together.
Alison: What?
Jamal: Come on, I think he has the hots for you.
Jamal: But you have a shift at the Recovery Room, right?
Alison: Yeah. Actually, no, I have a date with Rafe. I'm just kidding!
Rafe: You know, I have eyes in the back of my head.
Alison: Do you really?
Rafe: I'm kidding.
Alison: You know, for an angel, Rafe, you have a pretty good sense of humor.
Rafe: Known a lot of angels, have you?
Alison: Well, you know --
Rafe: What, do you think we just sit around on clouds all day playing harps?
Alison: I don't know.
Alison: So, is it true what they say about babies and angels?
Rafe: What's that?
Alison: That, you know, when they're born, they're still so close to heaven --
[crying continues]
Alison: So when they smile or laugh, it's because an angel is playing with them.
[Daniel cries louder]
Alison: Hmm? So what do you say? You want to give it a shot, angel?
Rafe: Uh, me? I don't, um --
Alison: Yeah, come on, let's -- let's see you work a little magic.
Alison: Hey, Daniel.
Rafe: There's no reason to cry. The world is a beautiful place. The light springs up out of darkness. Sometimes good things just pop up when you least expect them.
Alison: Yes, with a little help from your friendly neighborhood angel.
Rafe: That's a great smile.
Alison: Yeah. Look at him. He loves it.
Rafe: I was talking about you.
Alison: Huh?
Rafe: I love to make you smile.
Alison: Oh.
Alison: Oh, my gosh. Oh, that, like, tickles. Oh, that feels so good.
Rafe: Yeah, it does.
Victor: Let me see if I got this straight. This girl loves her fellow, but is perfectly willing to spend time with your friend, who --
Rafe: Who happens to be a -- magician who tries to dazzle her every chance he gets.
Victor: A showoff?
Rafe: No, he's not a showoff. He -- yeah, maybe. A little bit. See, this guy, he's never felt this way before. Every time he's around her he just feels magic happening to him, so it just -- it flows out of him, you know?
Alison: Hey, Rafe, you got a minute?
Rafe: Actually, no, I don't.
Alison: Listen, every time I think that things are going to get better, they just get worse. Ok, Jamal has made this decision to let his little girl stay with, you know, her adoptive parents. And Valerie is now fighting him and being all mother bear.
Rafe: You know what? You'll work it out.
Alison: Yeah, I know, but I sort of just need to blow off some steam. You know what I mean?
Jamal: And I also promised to get this over with ASAP. I mean, as soon as I get back from talking with the Hartmans and making sure that Hope's ok, I can come back and make sure Valerie gets her own place.
Alison: Then it can get back to just us. Hmm?
Jamal: Sure that's what you want?
Alison: Hmm?
Jamal: I mean, you're not going to have a lot of free time on your hands for what's-his-name?
Alison: Rafe? Jamal, I don't -- I don't exactly spend a lot of time with Rafe.
Jamal: Right. And you don't look too happy about it, either. I guess -- I guess I should be jealous.
Alison: Are you crazy? Jamal, I don't have a thing for Rafe. I just don't, ok, and I'm not attracted to him, ok? I'm sorry. We've been over this before. And even if I was attracted to him -- which I'm not --
Jamal: Uh-huh?
Alison: That's impossible.
Jamal: Really?
Alison: That's absolutely impossible.
Jamal: Why is that, Ali?
Alison: Because he's an angel, Jamal, and he's not --
Jamal: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, Ali -- what?
Jamal: Rafe's an angel, huh?
Alison: Jamal, that's not what I meant --
Jamal: Helpful, kind, considerate. Gee, Ali, I don't know. That sounds more like a boy scout to me, not an angel. Trust me, Rafe is not perfect.
Alison: That was close. Nice, Alison. Just blurt it out! That's a good one. "Rafe's an angel." Oh, my god. That can never, ever, ever happen again. And Jamal's right, I -- I think about Rafe way too much. I spend too much time with him and spend too much time talking about him and that has got to stop right now. I need to start thinking about much more important things like Christmas and shopping, taking a really hot shower.
Alison: Uh, Rafe! What are you doing here?
Rafe: Um -- um -- oh --
Alison: No!
Rafe: Alison --
Alison: Uh, just -- turn -- turn around!
Rafe: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I really am. I'm really --
Alison: It's a little late to cover your eyes, don't you think?
Rafe: I'm sorry, I just --
Alison: No, listen. Don't -- don't be sorry, ok? You just --
Rafe: No, I mean about the -- the mess.
Alison: Right.
Rafe: You know, making it and walking in here.
Alison: Yeah, I guess they don't have doors in heaven. Only pearly gates, huh?
Rafe: But I didn't think you were here, and -- and Mary sent me over --
Alison: Right, I know, I know. You told me that story, like, a million times. It's ok. Just calm down. I'm not upset.
Rafe: You're not?
Alison: No. I mean, it's not like you knew that this would happen, right?
Rafe: No, of course not.
Alison: Yeah. It's not like you did it on purpose because I highly doubt that, you know, peeping toms have halos, you know.
Rafe: No. No, no.
Rafe: What's wrong?
Alison: Just -- I just remembered that you're going to be going back. On christmas, you're going to leave for good.
Rafe: Yeah.
Alison: Yeah. I'm going to miss you. I'm going to miss you a lot.
Rafe: I'm going to miss you, too, Alison.
Rafe to himself: I'm just your not-so-perfect guardian angel who just kissed a mortal woman
who's in love with someone else, so I'm going straight to Hell!
Rafe: Well, you'll miss the grand finale.
Alison: I'm going to take off for Chicago. But I -- I didn't want to go without telling you how much you've -- you've touched my life. You know, Rafe, so many horrible things happen sometimes, and it's kind of hard to move past them. But I think that if I ever forget what a wonderful place this world is, I'll -- I'll just think of you and I'll remember.
Rafe: Well, thanks.
Alison: You know, you're really special. You're -- you're special to me.
Rafe: You're the special one. More than you know.
Rafe: Well, what? Hey --
Alison: Oh, nothing. I just -- I just wanted to get a -- a good picture of you in my mind before I left.
Rafe: Don't worry. You'll see me again.
Alison: Oh. In --
Rafe: Yeah.
Alison: Yeah. Well, I'm sure that they've missed you while you've been down here.
Rafe: Well, I'm not so sure about that.
Alison: What's it like there? I mean, can you tell me, or --
Rafe: It's different for everyone.
Alison: Well, promise to show me around if I get there?
Rafe: When you get there. But you still have a lot of time. Just use it wisely.
Alison: I will try.
Rafe: Hey, if my being here made your life harder in any way, I don't know if I --
Alison: No, no. I -- I wouldn't trade a single second of the time that we spent together, not for anything.
Rafe: Me, neither.
Alison: Oh, would you look at this place?
Rafe: I'm looking.
Rafe: You wouldn't want to dance, would you?
Alison: Oh, well, I thought that you would never ask.
Rafe: Oh, well, I'm only -- you know, I got to warn you, I'm not so good at this.
Alison: Well, I am, so just follow my lead.
Rafe: Ahem. Oh, you see, I'm -- I'm sorry I told you I --
Alison: I -- I feel like I'm dancing on air.
Serena: I don't know what I'm going to do. I can't find anything blue.
Rafe: Ok, um --
Alison: What about a flower?
Rafe: Lift up your dress.
Alison: Um -- excuse me?
Rafe: Trust?
Alison: Oh.
Rafe: Ok, now, have a seat, milady. Ahem.
Rafe: Serena?
Serena: Yeah? Oh.
Rafe: Will this do?
Serena: It's awesome. Thanks!
Alison: Yeah. Well, I didn't have that on when i left my house.
Rafe: Well, sometimes you just got to improvise.
Alison: Right.
Rafe: Come on. What is it?
Alison: I'm just -- I'm going to miss you, that's all. I already told you.
Rafe: Well, I'm -- I'm going to miss you, too.
Alison: Really? Because, Rafe, there's --
Rafe: But you got to remember, you got this great guy who -- who's going to spend the rest of his life with you. And he's probably missing you like crazy right about now.
Alison: Maybe. But I just feel like our lives are going in two totally different directions lately. I mean, he's off in Chicago dealing with this emergency that I cannot help with. And -- and I've just never felt this far apart from him before and this far away. And I've just never, you know, felt like this.
Rafe: Is there anything I can do? Anything?
Alison: You are. Just knowing that I have a friend to lean on and that you're here -- well, it means -- it means the world. What am I going to do without you?
Alison: No, rafe --
Rafe: Trust me, ok?
Alison: I -- I do. It's just it's really cold outside. I think that --
Rafe: Here --
Alison: I think we should just go back in.
Rafe: Any minute now.
Alison: Please.
[Clock chimes]
Rafe: Shh, just -- I wanted to be alone with you. I -- I want to remember you just like this.
Alison: I still have so many things that I wanted to say to you and that I -- I was going to tell you. I --
Rafe: I know. Me, too. I wish that --
[chimes]
Alison: Yes?
Rafe: Oh. I wish that --
Alison: Good-bye, my angel.
