Memories From Friends

This will be a page of memories.
Memories from the many friends of my dad,
Boyd"Max"Smothers who died July 14,1998.
You are missed.

"My memory of Max was his warm smile. It never changed, was always the same..each and everytime i saw him.I always looked forward to seeing him...Beverly Brobston

This ones kinda long...By Jabo(Bob Jackson)..one of dad's best buddies.

"Since my accident i don't really remember a lot of our past episodes. There are a few i heard from Max i don't believe and probably shouldn't.8^) One comes to mind..Max could be playing cards and concentrating on every one else's hand and come up with "Hey,Bobbie..Remember the time we were in Oakville after Ice fishing at the diner?"" We had a few pop's under our belt and we ordered the soup of the day(Ham & Bean). The lady served us and we were all talking. Max asked her if she would like a malt liquor? She said she would like one so Max sent me out to get her one.She really appreciated it because she kept filling our bowls free.Max really liked that. We finally got out of there"....Jabo's Memory#2..."Another time coming back from ice fishing we stopped at Haller's.We were in our usual good ice fishing shape.Max was going to teach me how to play pitch.I was doing ok till i got up to leave....WHEW....Legally drunk,i'd say!I followed Max out the back door then "THE FORCE" thru me out..i tried to clear the steps.Otherwise i would have gotten eaten up on those MONSTER steps that had gotten so many before me...8^) Being an x-paratrooper,i thought i could glide down to the sidewalk where i would perform one of my excellent landings! 3/4 of the way down i was in my famous turning role completeing a fine 5 point landing but Max had his truck parked in front of my drop zone.I guess my head hit the sharp edge on his chevy trucks back fender.I ended up with a 1/2 of a softball swelling in back of my head! It screwed up my neck for months! The funniest part was...Max thought someone had thrown me out and was going in after them! In my critical condition i stopped him and got him to take me home.As we approached i said Max,I can't see! He was ready to run me to the hospital until my wife came out and looked at me and asked..Where are your glasses? That helped our concern over my vision. Max ran me back to Haller's. We pulled up about the same place, got out and found them unharmed. He always kidded me about knocking his truck out of alignment! After that incident i had so much trouble i couldn't drink....only ice water.Max said he would drink enough for both of us...and sometimes could!!

Actually Max,you should have stuck to poker instead of playing rummy. You'd have had more money...LOL!...Ed Nafziger
