BACK COMMIT ALL SKILLS NEEDED TO RECALL

Ask yourselves, how hard it is for you to remember all the formulas, principles and laws ranging from Physics to even Additional Mathematic? If you ask me... hmm, compiled from several subjects (popularly Add Math, Physics and Chemistry) for two years of studies, then it would be as difficult as to pass all stages in Command & Conquer : Tiberian Sun and end in a winning. I don't say you cannot do it but it'll take all the efforts you could have. Why not? You have to urged all your mind and might just to seed these formulas such as P1V1 = P2V2 (Boyle's Law) and Ft = mv - mu (Impulse), straight into your brain and has to remember through the weeks of depresses and panics of examinations. But for Add Math, it is different as most of the major ones are listed for reference while the paper is running on.

For my guesses, this is why there was a new foundation in helping students to study more effectively by introducing The Smart Study programme.

Acronym, hmm... instead that it sounds like acrobatic, it has nothing to do with it at all. As The Oxford Quick Reference Dictionary & Thesaurus define it as 'word formed from the initial letters of others' such as ASEAN for Association of South East Asia Nations, this is very useful for the people called students. For instance, let say that you are taking Add Math and you are facing Trigonometry problem, the hell how will you answer when it demand the equivalence to be proved such as,

kos x        =   sek x + tan x
1-sin x

I'll bet that most students do not remember the formulas to this solution, unless they made something to it. So this what I am talking about. A few days ago, we (referring to my class) learned a new topic - Trigonometry Function. What was good about it was that as sudden as Cikgu Zaid (pseudonym) got in our class, he told us to make up stories whereby every first letter of the function represent a word. And that particular day turned to be so much fun as unless you create some jokes over it or else, you have to stand through the double period. However Cikgu Zaid wasn't that cruel - he let us sit anyway though we fail to do so but warned us that he'll be hearing our jokes next week. But I tell you man, doing that was so interesting. I just can't imagine how on earth they could came up with all the funny ideas, like,

sin2 X + kos2 X = 1                    sayang + kau = seorang(1)
                                     turned to be
sek2 X = 1 + tan2 X                    sebab tue = I(1) + tunggu

So you see, taking the first letter of any formula, principle or law and make some jokes from it could help you to study even better. It even shows you the solution of how to remember easier as in SPM we have to revise plenty of formulas in Add Math alone. Well if you include laws and principles from Chemistry and Physic and not to forget a basic subject such as History, I think our mind will end up in a blank on the most important day of our life - The EXAMINATION DAYS!. However, if you still think it's hard for you to remember, why don't you try make phrases which has meanings for you or something interest you. Instead of jokes, you could build an informative phrases or else. Still, there's another hint to make it more easier for you - when you think of something, think something that sound almost homophone (same sound like there & their). I use to go to seminars and motivation programmes and there was one attracted me so much. This seminar, which Dr. Shukri Abdullah alone handled it at about two years ago (which is 1998), still fresh in my thoughts. He gave us examples of easy-to-remember jokes and one of those that included was the Reactivation Series of Metals,

Kalium

Kalau ke

Natrium

Planetarium, bawa

Magnesium

Mek Som,

Kalsium

Kalsum dan

Aluminium

Ali minum air

Zink

sink. Ada

Ferum

Stanum

Well, that's all I can remember because I did not pay too much attention as I was still in a lower form. But if you are interested in knowing, I can ask my friend. She also participated in one of Dr. Shukri's programme but not at the same time as I did.

Hey! If we think about it again and again, this kind of skill could be among the best of teaching methods. This stuff won't bother you much and it's very useful and practical no matter when especially at eleventh hours. Why don't you just propose this to your teachers if they aren't aware of this yet, and I know they'll accept this method very well. Anyway, imagine the laughter you'll gain when hearing your friends' funny jokes and phrases. This will bring excitement into education and make you achieve good grades in a smile. Moreover, there's something that many people don't realize - as you are thinking on how, you are exercising your mind to think critically and creatively which at the same time intensifying your wisdom. But then again, this is just an idea. Why don't you give it a thought?
