In February 1998, Dalkiel (vocals,guitars) and Sarnath (bass) met in hopes of creating a melodic black metal masterpiece. Shortly after they met up with Diabolus (guitars) who completed their sound with a more technical style of playing. Diabolus was in contact with Kadath (drums) and thus, Algol was a whole. In October 1998 they recorded a 2-song demo, Enshroud Us In Darkness. Not far down the road, problems arose with Kadath and Diabolus. In May 1999 Zadok joined the band replacing Kadath and finally in September 1999 Diabolus was replaced by Mictian. Diabolus and Kadath formed a technical black death act, Umbra Within. With this new steady lineup they recorded their next demo, Forgotten Paths, in November of '99 which displayed an acoustic sound that contrasted their usual fast, brutal sound.
The new demo was sent to tons of labels before it caught the interest of Twelfth Planet Reords out of Italy. There was only one last problem, they needed a synth player to complete their new sound. Dalkiel contacted Cthulu and fortunately he was more than happy to oblige them. In February 2000 they began to record their first full length album, Gorgonus Aura, which was completed in April. Gorgonus Aura will be released in Late June/ Early July under their label, Twelfth Planet Records.
