IF THE MUSIC BOTHERS YOU... TURN IT OFF HERE! These tips come from Liz, from ElPaso. EVERYDAY SURVIVAL TIPS FOR A PH'ER I have found some things that have help me cope in dealing with this illness. Many of these you all probably know. 1. Eat a well balanced, tasty diet. Eat in happy, attractive surroundings. 2. Get plenty of rest. 3. Pamper yourself. Get small luxery items like good coffee, Chocolates, fluffy towels, fresh flowers, 200+ threadcount sheets, Magazines that you enjoy. Do somthing special for you to celebrate. 4 have a garden, even if it is in a container. It helps to see things grow. 5 pets are great therapy. If you don't have help, or your energy level is low and you can't take care of a small pet, feed the birds. They will give you hours of entertainment. 6 Don't waste your time with negative people. 7 Do somthing nice for someone else. Volunteer to read out loud at a school. Send holiday cards to the VA hospital or nursing home. Send am Xmas gift to a needy person. Give a buck to the homeless guy on the street corner. Compliment the checkout person in the grocery store. 8 do somthing creative. Do somthing you have always wanted to do. Paint, write, sew, sing opera, take piano lessons. Learn to cook Thai food. 9 check out rehab. It has made a difference in my life. I am the last person to say anything positive about exercize, but it has helped me so much. 10. Discover your spiritual side. Keep a prayer journal. Get a spiritual director. 11. Go see a funny movie. Keep laughing and see the humor in life. Read funny novels. Enjoy yourself. 12. See some one and get help for depression if you have it. The meds sure worked for me. 13 Volunteer if you have the energy, especially if you have had to quit your job. A few hours a week can give you some purpose and meaning. You can address envelopes, answer the phone at lunch. 14 Delegate chores. We are not Supermom or Superdad or Superspouse. Repeat after me, No one ever died froma messy home, unwashed car or take out food, unless you have talked to my mother. Get the kids and spouse to help. get a maid once a week if you can afford it. Simplify the cooking. I love the bagged salads and precut veggies. Boneless chicken and pork loin are great. I love to cook, but there are times when I do cuisine facile. 15 celebrate every holiday you can. Even if it is green milk and a kiss me I'm Irish button for Saint Pats. Neighborhood putlucks are great. Enjoy the people who make your life special. 16.Remember, We are lucky enough to have a chance to find out what is really important in life and discard the meaning les stuff. Don't waste that gift.
