FIVE MONTHS OLD

March 29, 2002

Alex has discovered mobility. He rolls and scootches around. He can get on his hands and knees, but is not yet able to crawl. It is amazing how mobile he is without being able to crawl, particularly if there is something on the floor that I'd rather he didn't get into.

He has just begun eating solid food. He's tried sweet potatoes, squash, and sweet peas - all homemade. He doesn't seem to really like any of them and would prefer not to eat off a spoon. Maybe it's just my cooking. So he continues to eat basically only breastmilk.

He is just starting to "talk." He gets so expressive saying his vowels with a couple of "dada"s thrown it. It is the cutest thing. I hope to be able to catch it on video soon.

As for sleeping, while he is now in his own room either in his crib or his carseat, there is still not much sleeping happening. He is up 2-3 times a night. Sometimes I can get him back down in a half an hour. Sometimes I can't and we end up sleeping on the couch. He is also up at the crack of dawn every morning. I don't know where he got that from. Before kids, the only time I saw the sunrise without an alarm clock was if I stayed up that late. He also falls asleep by 8pm. If we try to keep him up past that, he gets really cranky. Nicholas is the opposite. He will stay up late and wake up late if we let him. Actually, he is the opposite with just about everything. Two brothers couldn't be more different.

We got his picture taken with his brother and Mello cousins. Andrew didn't want to be included, but here are the rest of them:

Alex (5 months), Julia (10 1/2), Nicholas (22 months), Anthony (9), and Jacen (2 1/2)
