TWO YEARS OLD

November 10, 2003

Alex is now 2 years old. He is talking up a storm and you can actually understand most of what he says. He speaks in sentences and has quite a vocabulary. Of course all of this means that he can tattle on Nick now, and of course frequently does. He and his brother love to play together, but one or the other has a tendency to get a bit rough when they don't get their way. Typical siblings.

Alex has a wonderful imagination and can keep up with the "big kids" in all the games they play. If he wasn't so little, you wouldn't guess that he was any younger than his brother and his brother's friends. He jumps off of anything and hangs from everything. He climbs the kitchen drawers and stands on toys to turn on lights. He is still fearless.

He is also the child who is probably headed to the emergency room next. He has been providing humor for all who hear his stories, the latest one being the noodle. We were getting ready to brush teeth before bed (2 1/2 hours after dinner). I put him up on the counter and noticed a spaghetti noodle sticking out of his nose. After trying everything to pull it out, I finally called the advice nurse. She told us we could try sucking it out of his nose. She then consulted with an ER doctor who told us we needed to come in because we could see it in his throat as well and therefore it needed to come out through his mouth. Just as I was getting off the phone to take Alex to ER, his daddy blew into his nose and Alex swallowed the noodle.

On the bright side, his table manners seem to be improving. He no longer takes his sandwiches apart. He'll still talk about it, but he now leaves them together. He's still a picky eater and will skip a meal and go hungry if he doesn't feel like eating it.

For Halloween he dressed up as a mailman and went trick or treating. He really enjoyed it and actually said "trick or treat" and "thank you" at most of the houses.
