TWO MONTHS OLD

December 29, 2001

Alex's personality has really started developing in this second month. He is still fairly low key. He really likes to be held and will hold long "conversations" with you if you get right in his face and talk in his language. He will also get big smiles during these conversations. His daddy is really good at this. Alex also likes to watch Nicholas and Nicholas is really good with him. He will give him kisses and hugs and is finally beginning to give Alex his personal space.

Sleeping is still going relatively well. We have him sleeping in his carseat right now and that works well. I have also been putting him down in his crib for naps. I figure that I better have a backup plan for when he outgrows the carseat. He has had several nights when he has slept through from 9pm to about 5am, and then back to sleep until 8am after eating. I think he would do this more often if I let him stir without picking him up, but I'm always worried that he will wake Nicholas.

I think we will starting putting him in his own room soon.

He had his 2 month checkup on December 31st. He was 12 pounds and 23 inches (50th percentile in both). He is healthy now, but earlier this month we noticed his eye watering, so I took him to the doctor figuring that it was an eye infection and we would get drops. Well they also discovered an ear infection, so they put him on antibiotics. They also did an eye culture, and because he was so young, they drew blood as well. It was just a precaution in case it wasn't just a virus. It was a horrible experience for me, but Alex did really well. He screamed while they were drawing the blood, but as soon as it was over and he was picked up, he stopped crying. The same happened with his first set of vaccinations. As long as he's being held, all is right with world.
