The first month has come and gone and we are adjusting well. Alex is a sleeper. Perhaps it was the anesthesia they gave me in the hospital, but he slept the hospital stay away with no problem. He likes to sleep a lot and can sleep in just about any position. He was born 7 pounds 13 ounces and had grown to 8 pounds 10 ounces at his two week checkup. On the day after he was born, we started noticing that he sounded like he was gasping for air, particularly when eating, and it caused him to make a squeaking noise. The doctor said that it was developmental and that he would grow out of it. In the meantime, it's hard to listen to without worrying. I sometimes call him squeakers.
The day after his two week appointment he started having trouble keeping food down. He had been spitting up large amounts all day and at 10:00 at night, he vomited while eating. Nicholas has never vomited, and to be honest, it really scared me. I called the advice nurse and she recommended that we take him to emergency. We called Grandma Shubb to come over to watch Nicholas, and headed to the ER. After 3 hours, 3 nurses, and a doctor, they sent us home saying that he was okay. We were told what to watch for for dehydration and to come back if he wasn't keeping any food down or it continued for 24 hours. Well, none of that happened, but he continues to have trouble keeping food down and will still vomit every couple of days. We will be talking to his doctor about that at his 2 month appointment.
At the very end of his first month he began having more happy awake times. He also has begun trying to stand more and picking up his head and looking around. We can occasionally get smiles out of him , but he gives them sparingly. In the first picture you will notice that he has a look of distress. He gets that look often. It's like he is seriously solving a problem. The second picture is his content look.
