ELEVEN MONTHS OLD

October 2, 2002

Well, we are entering Alex's last month of his first year. He is clapping, waving, pointing and giving high fives. He walks all over the place and seems so grown up. He cut his two top teeth this month and now eats most of what we eat. He still insists on eating with one hand in his mouth, which makes a pretty big mess.

Just after getting his picture taken, he took his first fall into the fireplace, bruising his forehead and cheek pretty nicely. But he didn't let go of that glow worm that Nicholas was trying to snatch out of his hands. He's getting pretty good at holding onto the toys that Nicholas is trying to take away. I don't think he's going to let his brother bully him.

We have been hitting many of the festivals this last month. We went to a Harvest festival in Placerville, a Scottish festival in Dixon, and a Romanian festival in Carmichael. Alex also spent his first night away from home (along with the rest of us). We all spent one night at Aunt Lilly's and he actually did quite well. I don't know if it was the portacrib, the open window, the warm jammies, or the ticking of the clock, but he managed to sleep through the rooster crowing, the smell of skunk, and kids screaming and drag racing outside the window, and all this from a kid who wakes up if I roll over in my bed down the hall. We may have to get a pet rooster and skunk.
