I find wonder and awe in two places, which are music and nature. I have always enjoyed music to the fact that as I write this I am listening to my favorite songs for inspiration. Music emanates from everything around us it does not have to be a person singing. If you can find music in the wind blowing through the trees then you know what I mean when I say this. The music you listen to can change as fast as your moods. When you pay attention, you can find that if you are relaxed then a nice soft song is your choice, but if you are doing something like working out then a fast up beat song should be the choice.
The way music as done this has always fascinated me. I can listen to some songs over and over again but other get boring after a while. Music in all of its ranges has a different meaning for different people. When you listen to different types of music such as blues, rock and roll, hip-hop, country, etc., your perspective on life changes a little making you view of life a little different in the process. Music has a way of releasing all the tension and stress from your life even if for a moment. This gives me the wonder that if you can just zone out all of the problems in your life and just focus on your favorite song then your day will start to look up. Whether music does this for you or not, it still remains that music is entertainment. People have been enjoying music for hundreds of years and they will continue to enjoy it for hundreds more.
The other thing that gives me a sense of wonder and awe is nature. Whether it be the leaves changing in the fall or a sky that has no clouds and is the purest of blues, this makes me believe that there is something better out there for us all. I love to just stare out into the afternoon sky and wonder how is something so blue and gorgeous. The sky leads to many places where people see the same things as us but are miles apart. The sky is very large looking to us little beings but if we open our eyes to the possibilities then we can realize that it is pure and just as important as all of us.
Within nature, possibly one of the most interesting occurrences is the changing of leaves colors in the fall. If you stop to think about what is happening from a scientific approach it is still amazing, but if you look at it from a reflective light then you will notice that a miraculous event is happening before you eyes. The wonder comes from a curiosity of why the trees need to do this why cannot they just have leaves all the time. The wonder comes from a knowledge that we cannot understand
One of my most favorite places to go to in the fall is Montell Winery in Augusta, Mo. THey have a great view of the rolling hills that are lined with trees.
This is the part of my wonder. This is the place that completely awes me into a stand still. I go here every year and each year it gets more and more beutiful. This is a picture from on side of the winery. The link will take you to more.
The other place that gives me wonder and awe is the ocean. I had learned about the ocean from classes but when you first see it, the ocean is the most beautiful and magnificent thing in the world. I fell in love with the ocean and all of its wonders.
I have many songs that make me feel wonder and awe.
This song is called "I Stand" and it is by the wonderful singer Idina Menzel. In this song it talks about belief in something that is not know and yet we should believe it because bits and pieces have been revealed to us. This is just like the mystery of God. Another song is "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton. THe song just makes you reflect on what will happen in heaven; will we be remembered or not. The song was written after Mr. Clapton's son died. You can listen to the song here.
A third song is the song "Defying Gravity" again this is by Idina Menzel. This song is about not doing what the status quo says but doing what your heart says. The wonder in this is that not many people are able to do this task. If you we take the time to challenge what we know is not right even if the it is hard, the outcome will be better.
