Journal on Reason

Part 1: Topic of the Week
Reason is something that that a person cannot live without. In order for a person to try to understand the world, one must also learn how to reason. Each part of reasoning is important for a person. The three kinds of knowledge, experience, authority, and reason are important for a person to have. In my mind, I do not think that a person can really be successful in the world without learning different types of knowledge. Reasoning also encompasses the five common thinking errors, the five steps of critical thinking, and the process of reasoning. Every single part is important in this chapter on reasoning.

Part 2: Important Ideas
1.
The process of reasoning is something that most people do not tend to notice when they come up with a conclusion. People tend to categorize people before they even know the person. Even though it is something that pretty much every person does at one point in their life, most people do not even notice it until somebody makes them aware of it.

2. Another part of this chapter that was important was his idea of Aristotle’s Epistemology. Even though I do not agree with his notion that every person in the world wants the same things, I do think however, that it is a good thing to dream about, but something that is not very practical. Aristotle tried to understand the very basic things that make us human.

3. The final thing that I think is important in the chapter was the five common thinking errors. The five common thinking errors are things that every person has done once in their live. Even though some people might not be aware of it. The thinking errors can be another way that we can evaluate ourselves and maybe if we learn from our mistakes, we can improve ourselves.

Part 3: Question
Can one person know what the right plan for living is?

I do not think that one person could ever know what the right plan for living is simply because that person does not know every person on the planet. I think that what makes one person happy will not make another person happy. I think that if one person thinks something is pretty that somebody else might think that very same thing as ugly. It might be true that people want to be happy, but I also thing that the word happy is too vague. Happy can mean something for one person, but then it also might mean something very different for another.
