Jesus Model of Faith

Jesus and the Temptation in the Desert (Luke 4:1-13)

In this passage we see a more human side of Jesus. We see that Jesus is tempted to not follow the path of God, just like every single human. Here Jesus states the teachings on how to follow God. He says “Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.” Jesus also states, “Do not put the Lord your God to the test”. After the Devil tries to tempt Jesus and fails he leaves.

This passage is a good example of how Jesus can be a good example of faith. We see Jesus being tempted just like we are everyday, and yet he still remains loyal to God. Jesus states in this passage some of the beliefs that most people need to have. He challenging us to worship only God just like the commamdents. Jesus is also challenging us to not test our God, that we should have faith in God and that we should never try to test his power or wisdom.

Love Your Enemies (Luke 6:27-36)

In this passage Jesus states the ideals that all Catholics need to have. Jesus tells us to love our enemies, and that if somebody sticks one cheek then you should turn your other cheek. Jesus also states that we should always help our neighbors and that she should not expect to receive anything in return, for our reward is the kingdom of God.

This passage is really important because it really states what we all need to believe in. However these teachings are extremely hard to follow. The idea of loving your enemy sounds like an oxymoron. How we can love what we do not like. The only thing that is preventing us from doing this is ourselves. The other thing that sounds hard to do is to turn the other cheek, now it is possible but it is not the natural things to do. All of the teachings are things that Jesus knows that humans can do it just might be harder for some.

The Widow's Offering (Mark 12:41-44)

In this passage Jesus observes people giving money to the temple. Rich people only give a little bit of what they have, but a poor woman comes in and gives all that she has. Jesus states that she gave the greatest offering in the eyes of God, because she gave all she owned not just a portion of it.

This passage to me tells people to give, and not just a little. Now Jesus never said that you had to give all of your money away. In my mind if you give money to the church and you give up your time and do community service projects you are giving a lot. You can still be giving a lot but just not all of your money.
