There is something of a moral dilemma attached to scanning and translating the interior pages of doujinshi. Some websites refuse to offer this service on very sound ethical grounds; you can read a good summary of these webmasters' arguments here, especially as it applies to Gundam Wing doujin: MIND EDUCATION.
However, as much as I agree with some of the sentiment, I also feel it isn't fair to penalize people who can't find or afford their own doujin by denying them access entirely. Also, doujinshi and even fanfiction are, by their very definition, minor copyright infringements; thus it seems hypocritical to hold up a doujin author's creative rights as completely sacred. And as far as reducing demand goes, exposing more people to a largely unknown medium should logically create more fans, not fewer. So if you like some of the stories sampled here, please go investigate and buy your own doujinshi--Ebay's good for that.
Also, please know this: these are called "Just the Gist" translations for a reason. I only kind of speak and read Japanese, even after four years of university training and a year of studying abroad in Osaka. I will make no pretense to these scanlations being absolutely perfect. Some lines (mostly non-essential elements like author comments in the margins and such) I haven't translated at all because I couldn't quite figure them out. But, that being said, I have done my best to scanlate these pages as faithfully as possible, and as far as I know there are no egregious errors. So enjoy. |
