SUPPORTING CHARACTERS

TAITSUKUN
(First Appearance: manga #2/ TV5)
She is one of those residing in the world inside the book. I don't think she's actually the ruler, but she has all-access to anywhere and anything, and she can see everything that happens in the world. She has a VERY wrinkly face, and is often referred to the characters as sunakake babaa. (This a reference to a legend about a sand throwing witch.)

NYAN-NYAN

Nyan-Nyan are the KAWAII helpers of Taitsukun. They apparently pop out of nowhere, and are always ready to 'naosu-naosu' (heal heal!). They also like to try to naosu-naosu Taitsukun's ugly face... which earns them free trips into the atmosphere more often than not. Ai-ya!

YUUKI KEISUKE

Miaka's older brother in college. At first, Keisuke doesn't believe her story about the book...However, as they always say, you have to see it to believe it!

KAJIWARA TETSUYA

Tetsuya is Keisuke's rich best friend who gets caught up in this big mess.

SOU'S FAMILY
manga #3/ TV9)

Tamahome's family of two younger brothers (Chuei and Shunkei), two younger sisters (Gyokuran and Yuiren), and his father. Tamahome's siblings look up to him very much, and they treasure every second that he's with them, the cause being that Tamahome is always in Aeyo trying to make money for them.

Tamahome's father has been sick for a long time. If it weren't for Mitsukake he would've died before he did.

When Miaka first came to their house, she was at once a magnet. Thinking that Miaka is Tamahome's wife, the kids took to her easily and called her oneechan. (much to the embarrassment of Tamahome and Miaka)

Chuei is the eldest of the youngsters, and is the one taking over the role of oniichan when Tama-kun is away. He works very hard to be like his brother. Chuei looks exactly like Tama-kun, except with blue hair instead of green in the anime, that Miaka once jumped on him, thinking that he's Tamahome. Even their way of thinking about money is the same.

Although Tamahome loves all of his siblings equally, it can't be helped that he give Yuiren extra care, the reason being that she's the youngest. Also, Tamahome's mother passed away giving birth to Yuiren, and so Tama-kun was the one who brought her up.

EIKEN

The slovenly bandit who initially tried to make himself leader of the Leikaku bandits in the absence of Genrou (Tasuki).

KOUJI
(manga #14/ TV13)
Kouji is Gen-chan's (Tasuki's) best bandit buddy who has the curious habit of doing an Osaka comedy routine of carrying conversations on by himself. He is the deserving leader of the Leikaku bandits in Genrou's abscence.

SHOUKA

Shouka is Mitsukake's deceased girlfriend.

KAIKA'S FAMILY

The childless couple that took in the amnesiatic Amiboshi as their own son.

TOKI

Toki is the monk that helps Keisuke and Tetsuya find out more about the book. He is also the caretaker of the aging Suzuno Ousugi.

CHI FAN

Also known as Xi Fang. She is the adopted daughter of Subaru and Tokaki.

HOUKI

Houki is Hotohori's empress, who bears a very striking resemblence to Nuriko. So much so that Miaka and the others thought at first she was Nuriko.

OUKUDA EINOSUKE
The one who actually brought the book Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho to Japan in 1923 He killed his daughter and then himself after his daughter became a Miko. He didn't appear in the FY series, but he was mentioned several times.

OUSUGI-SAN
The person whom Oukuda-san entrusted the book after his and his daughter's deaths. He didn't appear in the FY series, either, but he was also mentioned several times.

1st OAV Series

TOKI
Toki is not new to the FY world, but he makes a re-appearance in this OAV.

KAEN (Tomo)
Kaen is the girl who serves Tamahome, and keeps telling him that he is Nakago. She is actually Tomo, and is controlling Tamahome's brain with an illusion world.

KOUJI & THE MT. LEIKAKU BANDITS
Again, these aren't new characters but the other half of the Merry Bandit Duo makes an appearance in Tomo's world in 1OAV-2.

HATSUI & URUMIYA
Hatsui and Urumiya made a very brief appearance in 1OAV-3. But they both died around 200 years prior the FY storyline, so I think the ones who made the appearances were their reincarnations.

TENKOU

Tenkou is the POWERFUL majin trying to become a god. He has four underlings to help him carry out this mission...

2nd OAV Series

HOUKI

Hotohori's Empress, who had been completely heartbroken when Hotohori died. (Originally introduced in manga #12 / TV4? )

BOUSHIN
(manga #15 / 2OAV-2)
Hotohori's baby son. He has never met his father, but he knew Hotohori the instant he saw him.

Boushin is, according to Hotohori-sama, "very beautiful, and very intelligent, just like I was when I was his age"

SHIGYOU LEN (Lenhou)
(manga #14 / 2OAV-1)
A very popular transfer student in Miaka's school. He turns out to be a minion working under Tenkou.

KAMISHIRO MIIRU (Miisu)
(manga #16 / 2OAV-1)
Miiru is a student at Tetsuya and Keisuke's university. (In the manga, Keisuke wants to become involved with her.) Really she is Miisu, Renhou's sister. She and Renhou were ostrasized because of their incestuous relationship. She also works under Tenkou.

KANKI (Hikou)
(manga #17 / 2OAV-5)
Once Houjun's (Chichiri's) best friend, he became Tenkou's minion, whose mission is to take out Chichiri, the 2nd most powerful of the Suzaku Seishi. His weapon is (ironically) water which brings out the hidden, evil thoughts of a person.

'Tamahome' (Yosui)
(manga #17-18 / 2OAV-6)
This "Tamahome" appears to be the real thing, but really he is a minion of Tenkou who has Tamahome's memories.

MIAKA'S MOTHER'S BOYFRIEND/HUSBAND
(manga #1 / manga #14+)
This is a subject that wasn't touched on in the television series, or subsequent OAVs at all. Miaka, in volume #1, spies her mother with a man... when she was supposed to be somewhere else. This causes some friction between them. By the 2nd part of the manga, he's her husband. (I don't believe he was given a name.)

'KAEN' AND THE AMAZON TRIBE
(manga #8)
In the manga, Soi was actually masquerading as part of an Amazon tribe that the Suzaku Seishi had to get past in order to cross their way into Hokkan. (This resulted in some extremely funny scenes with the guys in drag.) 'Kaen' was Soi's name as she pretended to be part of this tribe in order to get to Suzaku no Miko. Incidentally, this omitted part is what inspired the hilarous onsen omake in 1OAV series.

AIDOU AND THE KOU FAMILY
(manga #14)
Aidou is Tasuki's sister, the one closest in age to him I believe. (Tasuki, incidentally, has 5 sisters, all older than him. That kinda explains why he hates women...) She loves to abuse Tasuki by throwing logs at him. (Again, further explanation as to why Tasuki hates women ^^;;) Tasuki's (healthy) mother and fairly invisible father also make a brief appearance.

NOVEL ONLY

HAKUROU (Genrouden)
The Mt. Leikaku bandit leader that took a young Kou Shunu under his wing, and gave him the familiar nick name: Genrou.

OUGI (Genrouden)
Saihitei's (Hotohori's) brother, a prince of Konan.

KYOUAN (Genrouden)
A girl whom Kouji and Genrou saved in the marketplace, who eventually left with Ougi.

KEIRON (Genrouden)
Leader of the Mt. Kaou bandits.

REIREI (Genrouden)
Keiron's clever sister.

KOURAN (Shoryuuden) and OU KOURAN (Shoryuuden)
Kouran (she is not given a surname) was the name of Houjun's fiancee` who died in the flood that also took Hikou. (Remember that Houjun is Chichiri's real name.) She doesn't actually make appearance in the novel but knowing her name is important because...
Ou Kouran is the girl who helps to save Houjun three years after the death of Kouran and Hikou after he is overwhelmed with guilt and attempts to take his life. She, incidentally, bears a striking resemblence to Houjun's deceased fiancee`.)

RYUU SHUISEI (Shoryuuden)
Ou Kouran's boyfriend who, ironically, resembles Houjun's friend Hikou. He is a warrior under Nakago's command.
