Suzaku no Miko and Shichi Seishi Suzaku is the phoenix, god of the south. Its shrine may be a golden phoenix(does that make any sense?), but believe me, its aura and Suzaku itself, is red.^^Miaka is your ordinary high school examinee. She's not exactly the most intelligent girl in the world, and she's clumsy and a little bit ditzy, but very sweet and cares greatly for others. Her best friend, Yui, is VERY intelligent. They want to try and go to the same high school. When she and Yui were sucked into the Shi Jin Ten Chi Sho, Miaka becomes the Suzaku no Miko, the protector of the country of Konan. Yui, unfortunately, becomes the Seiryuu no Miko, and Miaka's enemy. Miaka will do ANYTHING to prevent bloodshed. She's run away alone from the protection of her seishi several times, with the objective of not involving others in her problems. And because of this, she ususally gets into deeper trouble. But this doesn't change her mind. She STRONGLY believes that she's responsible for her actions, and so she tries to take the fall alone. Apparently, her seishi, especially Tamahome, won't let her.
Needless to say, Miaka is haplessly in love with Tamahome. She would do anything for him without even thinking...Although she does a lot of things without thinking, it's mainly because of her great concern for others, neglecting her own welfare...even if she had to die. I say this is one of her best traits, but, to other people, is being VERY stupid. Much to the dismay of girls I know, almost all the bishounen in FY fall for Miaka. Many people can't understand why they did. Apparently, this is one of the reasons why there are a lot of hate shrines in the net for her. But, me, like Miaka. She's actually very strong, and sticks to what she believes in. My favorate of all her ideas was: "You just can't change people's hearts with orders..." Miaka is actually very wise and clever. Of course, in the start of the series, this doesn't show, but as the plot moves on, she matures, and her potential strengths appear. I especially love her in the last 2 episodes. Her decisions were firm and clear to her, and she didn't regret her actions. Miaka has always had VERY strong sense of responsibility. Sometimes, it's even too strong to the point that she takes the load for things that she shouldn't.
TAMAHOME Tamahome is the guy who saves Miaka when she first arrives in the world inside the book. the first thing we find out about him is that he's REALLY good at martial arts. The second thing is...welll, he REALLY REALLY loves money. O-KA-NE. He seems to love just money, but eventually it's revealed that there was a (sweet) reason why he does.
Tamahome is actually a nice guy. He fights to defend his friends (especially Miaka) or anybody needing help, for that matter. Although he's very particular when it comes to money, he's a very unselfish person, that's for sure. He loves his family, his friends, even his friends turned enemies, and of course, Miaka. He loves Miaka very much and would go out of his way for her. He's usually the one running after her when she goes off alone.
Tamahome, like all other seishi, is very important to the group. Even when he was controlled by the Seiryuu quadrant, the guys still can't hurt him. Well, not much, anyway. But when he's his normal self, he cares as much for his friends. He'll give his life up if it'll benefit the group. Tamahome is one of my favorate seishi. Aside from being a total bishounen, I love his attitude. Like Miaka, he also holds strongly onto his beliefs. He's also very focused. When he wants to do something, he'll do it no matter what. Nothing can stop him...with the possible exception of money, but that'll be just temporary^^ And, also like Miaka, Tamahome isn't that good at inetentionally making jokes, but makes everyone laugh unexpectedly, instead. I guess that's what makes the so compatible... HOTOHORI "I'm so beautiful it's scary." That's a direct quote from the Emperor of Konan himself. I guess Hotohori has every right to be narcisstic. He's REALLY *beautiful*...as a male, and as a female. He can pass as a girl anytime he wants. He's a pretty good actor, too! At first glance, you may think that Hotohori is a snobbish, self-centered rich-kid emperor. Well, he's not. He actually cares a lot for his friends. Hotohori was usually calm and collected, but becomes angry when it comes to his friends, especially Miaka. He's also VERY concerned of his country. He was very dismayed and determined to work harder when he discovered that there was still such poor people in Konan. That's why he's well-loved by his followers. I think Hotohori's really cool when he fights with his sword. He's really skilled at it, and he's in complete control of himself when he's fighting. He thinks up his strategies really well, and his manouvers are very good. You really know his skills are polished, worthy for an Emperor.
Hotohori was an emperor by the age of 14, and the rest of his family members either left or passed away before that. He was very lonely as a child. That's why he longed for the Suzaku no Miko, who he thinks will free him, to come. And, she DID come, in a package in the form of the ditzy Miaka. He's kind, a great swordsman, a bishounen. On top of that, he's an EMPEROR. Hotohori has everything a girl can wish for, but, unfortunately for him, he can't get the girl he loves. It has always been debated whether or not Hotohori's love for Miaka is for real or not. Whether or not Hotohori was in love with the Suzaku no Miko or Miaka. I say it was to the Suzaku no Miko at first, and then to Miaka.
Hotohori was the first one to propose to Miaka, so he tends to be possessive of her in the start of the series. But as the plot goes on, he realizes that Miaka really loves Tamahome, and so he can only wish for her happiness. I really love Hotohori's patience and nobility. Even though he can't get Miaka, Miaka loves, and that's enough for him. But that doesn't stop him from loving her. Hotohori still protected Miaka, the Suzaku no Miko, to his last breath. NURIKO First appears as "Kourin," a lady within Hotohori's court, but is eventually revealed to be Nuriko, a Suzaku Shichi Seishi.
Although Nuriko saved Miaka and Tamahome's lives, the two girls didn't start off very well. Nuriko is jealous of Miaka for being close to Hotohori, and Miaka isn't very happy when Nuriko gets close with Tamahome. But, Miaka finds out Nuriko's secret, and she has no reason to be jealous anymore. Later on, the two become close and Nuriko treats Miaka as a younger sister. Nuriko is undeniably beautiful, and he's usually been mistaken for a girl, even when he's in a guy's clothing, and is often being hit on by men. Nuriko is extraordinarily strong. He can lift boulders and pillars without even breaking a sweat. Nuriko is very responsible and hard-working, and gets jobs assigned to him done, no matter what. Nuriko is very patient with his friends, and often does most of the work when the boys are quarelling. He cares a lot about Miaka and their friends, and he's always there for them. What I love about Nuriko is that he always smiles, and that he has a quick mind. Even in the most desperate situations, his resourcefulness and reflexes are always with him. Nuriko is, literally, your all-around guy. He has become the faithful lover, the mistress, the matchmaker, the older sister, older brother, younger brother, babysitter, strong protector, waitress, advice-giver, comedian, cook, comrade...you-name-it-you-got-it! CHICHIRI Da! The blue haired monk with the strange speech pattern. At 24 years of age, Chichiri is the oldest out of the Suzaku Seishi. He is, in many ways, the man among the boys and the silent leader who gets everything done. Chichiri is very intelligent and is almost always one step ahead. He saves Miaka from certain death in a split-second the first time he appears, and he does so the whole series. Of course, because he's a seishi. But what separates him from the other seishi is that he remains calm and knowledgeable. He thinks thoroughly and quickly of the situation before acting. Chichiri always wears a mask with a smiling face on it. He rarely lets his emotions get in the way of his actions. Yes, he cares for his friends ver much, too, but he doesn't become enraged and careless in fighting. Even if, on a rare occassion, that he gets VERY angry, he still thinks rationally, carries out his strategy with utmost care, and fights the way he does before, but probably with more power, of course.
Chichiri is one of the strongest of the seishi. Many debate who's stronger: Tamahome or Chichiri. I say they're just equal, but in different areas. Tamahome is more on physical strength and reflexes, while Chichiri is on psychic strength and the brains. Chichiri trained half of his life so far in magic under Taiitsukun, and he is practically a master at it. He can transform into someone else's face in a second, paralyze people without even touching them, become invisible, teleport from place to place, and many others. He's got so much power that he doesn't have to use all his power when he's fighting.
Chichiri is the perfect person to talk to when you have a problem. He's usually alone meditating or something, but he's always there to cheer up anybody who needs to be, and just sit there and listen. If he's not alone meditating, he's usually just walking around, and then turns up in the perfect time and place to find someone having a tough time. Chichiri is a keen observer. He's also one of my favorates because even with his wisdom and skills, he can also be the most hilarious character for his sense of humor, his strange way of talking, and especially the fact that he is the one character shown in SD while everyone else is normal. TASUKI One of the Mt. Leikaku bandits, AND also one of my favorates, Tasuki is tough guy of the group, or at least he tries to be. His one weakness is water. We have to accept that since, as Tasuki once said, "I'm a man of the mountains! I can't do anything about it!" But we all have weaknesses, anyway, ne? When Tamahome tries to throw Tasuki in the water, the more they look like brothers. Tasuki's trusty weapon is his fire-throwing iron fan. But generally speaking, Tasuki is a great fighter. He can kick anyone's ass, fan or no fan. When it comes to physical strength and fighting skills, I'd say he's probably 2nd to Tamahome, and along the same lines as Hotohori.
As much Miaka loves anything edible, Tasuki LOVES peaches. Tasuki is quite famous for his potty mouth. Well, living in the mountains, I guess you can't avoid being that way. His best friend from his fellow bandits is Kouji. But of the Suzaku Shichi Seishi, the closest of the group is Tasuki, Tamahome, Nuriko and Chichiri.
He claims to hate women, but we actually can't blame him for this as we look into his family background. But in actuality, he cares a lot about all his friends, male or female. He sees Miaka as a younger sister he's never had before. At least that's what it was in the beginning... As much of a tough guy as Tasuki tries to be, he's really quite a softie and would do anything for his friends. MITSUKAKE A soft-spoken, but dry humored doctor. Actually, he wasn't that much of a doctor when Miaka and the others found him, because of a terrible incident in the past. Thanks goodness he came to his senses. Mitsuakake has a kind and caring voice, and he tries everything to comfort his friends in time of need. More often than not, it partly works. Mitsukake's seishi power is of healing. But he always said that he can heal the physical injuries and wounds, but he can never fully heal the heart with his Seishi power. Well, it was true. It was up to the person to make himself recover. Mitsukake was a great doctor. He carried on his goal of helping others, even putting his own life on the line, till the very end. Mitsukake was always handy to have around, since everyone was always getting into fights. And, he's always alert and ready to heal wounds. He is undoubtedly the most 'common' of the seven. CHIRIKO The youngest out of the seven Seishi, Chiriko is an extremely bright child. He's 13 years old, but looks even younger, a fact that he's aware of. He comes to Aeyo after seeing an omen that the Suzaku no Miko together with the Seishi, are going to disappear. True enough, he arrives there just in time to save the group. He plays a grass flute when he's doing nothing...and that happens at rare occassions only. Even as a child, he has applied to be a member of Hotohori's advisers, and he actually passed. That actually kept him busy before they left for Hokkan. He seems to look up greatly to strong male figures, and has a special attachment to Tasuki. At times, Chiriko seems to be of no use other than to think. He thought that he wasn't able to work as much as the others did, much to his dismay. But actually, he's a very brave kid. He tries very hard to be worthy of being called a seishi (which, of course, he already is), and he'll willingly sacrifice his life to help. With this firm in his mind, he DID have a HUGE contribution to the success of the Suzaku side in the end. |
