Vincent Patrick Heinz was born the son of a Starfleet
construction engineer at Utopia Planetia Shipyards and a Starfleet warrant
officer. An only child, his parents Simon and Catherine lavished affection on
him even when he had misbehaved. This would have spoiled the young boy somewhat
if not for his best friend, an Andorian youth well known around their area on
Mars as a troublemaker. Vincent fell in with Hakor and his growing band of
miscreants, performing acts of vandalism and chaos on a nightly basis. However,
before Vincent could go too far he got a rude awakening when Hakor mysteriously
reformed. Disillusioned by the betrayal of his gang’s leader Vincent turned on
everyone around him and ran rampant, making his parents’ lives intolerably for
months. Hakor, seeing what was happening, stepped in and took Vincent on a tour
of his own life. The exact details are a mystery, and Vincent has never spoken
of them to anyone, but when he returned to his home he was no longer the
troublesome youth his parents remembered.
STARFLEET
DETAILS
Vincent Patrick Heinz, now the dutiful son of his parents, applied to enter Starfleet Academy. In an effort to make up for his previous dire ways he strove to become the best officer he could, at least for a year, but he failed his first year exams and decided to call it a day. His mother and father reassured him that there were other avenues he could take, so, resigning his dream of becoming a starship captain he enlisted as an engineer.
Heinz proved to have a great fix-it man
in training, and became an apt engineer upon passing basic training. His skills
have shown through his perseverance and abilties time and again, and more than
one of the chief engineering officers he served under put him forward for
citations and commendations. His engineering capabilities brought him to the
attention of Chief Petty Officer Liam Thomson while the two men served together
at the Raysar Array near the Romulan Neutral Zone, and when that installation
was decommissioned Thomson requested a transfer for Heinz to the same posting
he was headed for – Starbase 565, then located not far from the Raysar Array.
The two crewmen have served together since, Heinz operating as Thomson’s ‘first
officer’ as standard practice. He still aspires to be a captain of his own
starship one day, but no longer feels disappointed that he had to drop out of
Starfleet Academy
