PRE-STARFLEET
CAREER
Before entering into Starfleet Sha’arat Arnam served as
the captain’s yeoman aboard the trading vessel her father owned. Although her
education was lacking in most regards, Arnam received the benefit of years
spent travelling through space as her father’s assistant. When he expanded his
business and branched out into more lucrative markets he handed command of the
SS Viceroy over to his brother, Thomas, who taught young Arnam everything she
now knows about flying a starship. However, when her uncle died when she was 16
and her eldest brother Gavin took over she discovered that he had no use for
his little sister as her father and Thomas had, so he refused to keep her
aboard. Peter Arnam sided with Gavin, so she decided to leave the family
business behind and enrolled into Starfleet Academy.
STARFLEET CAREER
Ensign Arnam’s time spent at the Academy was not an easy
one. She struggled at her studies, never quite achieving grades high enough to
warrant praise and often falling flat on her face in exams. But she never gave
up, and every time she failed she promised herself that she would prove her
brother and her father wrong by succeeding when they believed she would fail.
Eventually she graduated, having to resit her final exams, and was assigned to
Starbase 565 as one of its shuttle pilots.
UPBRINGING
Although there was no love lost between Arnam and her
stepmother, the younger Arnam did not particularly dislike Alice. In truth,
most of this was because Sha’arat had never known her real mother Maria who
died when she was four. All she has left of her is a few faded memories, a
broken hand mirror that was her mother’s favourite and her name. Maria Arnam
had been an eccentric space traveller for many years before she and Peter met,
during which time she fell in love with more than one alien culture. The name
Sha’arat comes from an Ekrannian city called Place of Joy while her twin brother’s
name, Emal’tar, was the name of a fabled Cardassian hero of old. Ameral and
Telaf are Cardassian and Ktarian respectively.
PERSONALITY
Sha’arat Arnam is shy and subdued, the result of years of taking orders from her father, her uncle and, for a short time, her eldest brother. She is highly unsure of herself and often overthinks situations when there is no need to. More than once her worrisome ways and anxiety have led to her failure at a particular task.
