Jeff: Matt, why are you knock...
His words trail off at the vision before him.
Trish: I’m not Matt.
Jeff: I can see that. What can I do for you Trish?
Trish: Have you seen Amy? There’s no answer next door.
Jeff: She’s out with Matt. They should be back any minute though. Would you like to wait in here?
Trish: I’d love to.
She smiles shyly at him and Jeff can’t help smiling back. He steps aside to let her pass, then closes the door behind her. When he turns back to her he notices that she is seated on the edge of his bed.
Trish: Whose bed is this?
Jeff: Mine.
Trish: Oh. You don’t mind if I sit here, do you?
Jeff: Not at all. Make yourself comfortable.
He walks by her and sits across from her on Matt’s bed.
Jeff: So what do you need to see Amy about?
Trish: Well in a way, us.
Jeff: Us?
Trish: Yeah. Earlier tonight on Raw you saved me from the Big Show, and next Monday we’re supposed to kiss after your match with him.
Jeff blushes slightly when she mentions their kiss, but Trish continues on.
Trish: Once we kiss, our “romance” will officially begin. And if I’m dating you, then I’m going to be hanging out with Team Xtreme.
Jeff: Right.
Trish: Well since I don’t know any of you that well, I thought it might be a good idea to room with Amy for a little bit so I can spend some time with you guys outside of the ring. If she doesn’t want to, I’d completely understand. I just thought I’d ask.
Jeff: Well I think it’s a great idea.
Trish: Really?
Jeff: Yeah. I bet Amy will too.
Trish: Somehow I don’t think she’ll be as enthusiastic about it as you are.
Jeff: Why wouldn’t she be? She likes you.
Trish: I know but still, having her own room has a lot of advantages.
Jeff: Like what?
Trish: Come on Jeff. Amy, Matt, alone in a hotel room...
Jeff finally clues in to her meaning.
Jeff: You do know that it’s all an act right? Matt and Lita are dating, Matt and Amy aren’t.
Trish: Are you sure? I mean the way that they look at each other...
Jeff: I know, I’ve noticed it too. But they’re really not together.
Trish: Well they should be. They’d be perfect for each other.
Jeff: I agree. But unfortunately they’re just friends.
Just then Matt and Amy walk into the room. Jeff’s gaze immediately focuses on their empty hands.
Jeff: I thought you were getting us food!
Matt: We changed our minds. We’re going out to eat now.
It finally registers on Matt and Amy that they have company.
Amy: Trish, what are you doing here?
Trish: I...
Jeff: She can tell you while we eat. Let’s go, I’m starved. I haven’t eaten since dinner.
Without waiting for an answer, Jeff grabs Trish’s hand and pulls her towards the door. Matt and Amy exchange a confused look before following after them.
**********
About an hour later, Trish and Amy walk down the hall toward their hotel room ahead of Jeff and Matt who are carrying Trish’s bags.
Trish: Are you sure you don’t mind sharing your room with me?
Amy: Trish, for the last time, I’m okay with it, really.
Trish: Sorry. I just don’t want us to start things off on the wrong foot. I really want us to be friends.
Amy: We are friends, aren’t we guys?
Matt: Absolutely.
Jeff: Without a doubt.
Trish smiles gratefully at them as Amy unlocks the door to the room. They all follow her inside, and Jeff and Matt set Trish’s bags down on the floor by the door.
Amy: We’ll get you your own key in the morning Trish. Right now, I’m going to bed.
She reaches for Jeff and gives him a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. As she then does the same to Matt, Jeff and Trish watch with interest.
Amy: Goodnight guys.
Matt: Night Amy.
Amy grabs her pajamas and goes into the bathroom. Matt immediately wishes Trish goodnight and returns to his own room. Jeff and Trish are now alone in the hotel room.
Jeff: Well I guess I should be getting to bed too. If you need anything, all you have to do is knock on the connecting door.
Trish: I’ll remember that.
Trish follows him as he slowly walks to the door. He steps out into the hallway and then turns back around to face her.
Jeff: Goodnight Trish.
On an impulse, Trish leans up and softly kisses him on the cheek as Amy had done a few minutes before.
Trish: Goodnight Jeff.
Without waiting for a response, she quickly retreats into her room, leaving Jeff staring after her in shock.
**********
The next morning, Jeff is awakened by a knock on the connecting door. Still half asleep, he doesn’t even raise his head from his pillow.
Jeff: Who is it?
Before the words are out of his mouth he knows the answer to his question. Amy never knocked, she just walked right in, so that left only one person...
Trish: It’s me, Trish. Can I come in?
Jeff: Sure.
He slowly sits up and throws his blankets off as Trish walks in the door. At her soft gasp his eyes fly to her face that is now turned away from him. He instantly recognizes what the problem is and hurries to cover himself again as his face turns red. He’d forgotten that he was only wearing boxers, a fact that Trish was now aware of.
Trish: Um I... I didn’t know you weren’t dressed yet. I’m sorry I...
She still isn’t looking at him as she backs up toward the door, but Jeff can tell that she is blushing also.
Jeff: No, don’t go! I mean, it’s okay. Did you want something?
Yeah you, Trish thinks to herself, but wisely keeps her mouth shut.
Trish: Amy and Matt sent me in here to make sure you were up. They said you have a tendency to sleep in late.
She finally turns her head to meet his eyes.
Trish: We’re gonna grab some breakfast before we go to the gym. They’ve already gone downstairs.
In other words, there is no one to interrupt them. Several possibilities flash through Jeff’s mine but he dismisses them just as quickly. Trish and him are just friends, no matter how much he longed for something more. His disappointment must have been evident on his face, because Trish rushes over to sit beside him in concern.
Trish: Is something wrong Jeff?
Jeff: No, of course not. I’m just tired, that’s all.
Trish: Are you sure?
Jeff: I’m fine, really.
Trish: Okay. Then I’ll leave you to get dressed.
Jeff: Sure. Give me 5 minutes.
Trish stands up and walks to the connecting door. The second she disappears through the door, Jeff gets up as well and reaches in his suitcase for some clothes before heading into the bathroom to change. He doesn’t notice that Trish is still standing in the doorway watching him walk around the room. After a nice long appreciative stare at Jeff, she closes the door with a smile upon her lips.
