Jill: It’s so pretty here. I can see why you love it.
Kevin: It’s not the only thing.
Jill smiles at him and kisses him sweetly before going back to admiring the view. They stand there in silence for awhile, just enjoying being together. The beeping of Kevin’s watch ruins their peacefulness.
Jill: What is that for?
Kevin: We were going to go horseback riding remember? I knew that we’d lose track of time easily out here, so I set the alarm on my watch.
Jill: Good idea. I wish I’d thought of it.
Kevin: Do you still want to go riding, or would you rather stay here?
Jill: Let me have one last look, and then we can leave.
She runs over to the edge and Kevin follows her. After a moment she starts walking away, but Kevin doesn’t move.
Jill: Aren’t you coming?
Kevin: Wait, what does this remind you of?
He strikes a dramatic pose and begins speaking slower and deeper than usual. Kevin: "Baby, I know you’re hurting. And right now"... Ow!
Jill has picked up a small stick that she found on the ground and playfully tossed it at him.
Jill: I wish I had a snowball. You’d be getting that instead!
Kevin: Do you mind? I wasn’t finished. As I was saying, "And right now you feel..."
Jill comes toward him, intending to tickle him to shut him up, but Kevin grabs her around the waist and lifts her off of her feet.
Kevin: "...like you can never love again".
Jill: Put me down! Kevin!
Jill is laughing and trying unsuccessfully to get free.
Kevin: Stop distracting me! This is my big solo in the song. "Now all I ask..."
He lowers her to the ground but keeps her in his arms. Jill looks at his face and sees that he is now serious.
Kevin: "...is for a chance, to prove that I love you."
Jill slides her arms around his neck and stares into his eyes.
Jill: You don’t need to prove it. I know you love me. You show me every day.
Kevin: How about right now?
He kisses her deeply and they fall to the ground in each other’s arms. Suddenly it starts to rain.
Jill: I thought I said snow. This doesn’t look like snow to me.
Kevin: We’d better get going. The ground’s going to get all muddy soon.
He gives her a quick kiss on the forehead before standing up and then reaching down to pull her up after him. They head for the car hand in hand. Unfortunately the rain starts pouring down and puts an end to their horseback riding plans. They return to Kevin’s house instead.
Kevin: I’m really sorry about this. I know you wanted to go riding.
Jill: That’s okay. It’s not your fault. You can’t control the weather.
Kevin unlocks the front door and walks in, holding it open for Jill. She stops just inside the door and turns to look at him, gazing up at him expectantly.
Kevin: What? Should I have let you enter first? I’m sorry I...
He is suddenly conscious of the scent of vanilla. He turns around and is speechless. There are tons of candles, romantic music playing in the background, and a blanket and picnic basket in front of the fireplace.
Jill: So I take it that you like it?
His eyes return to her and he can tell she is pleased by his reaction.
Jill: I know it’s nothing special or even very original, but...
Kevin: I love it! But when did you have time to do all this? We’ve been together all day.
Jill: I had your mother set it all up.
Kevin: My mother was in on all this?
Jill: Didn’t you wonder why she was so insistent that you bring me to visit on this particular tour? We’ve had this planned for months.
Kevin: You’re full of surprises, do you know that?
Jill: You haven’t seen anything yet.
She leads him over to the blanket and they both sit down, leaning back against the pillows that have been spread out around it. Jill reaches into the picnic basket and pulls out a bottle of champagne and two glasses. Kevin takes the bottle from her and pours some for each of them, then raises his arm for a toast.
Kevin: What should we drink to?
Jill: How about us being together and happy on this Valentine’s Day, and hopefully many more to come?
Kevin: Sounds good to me.
They clink their glasses together and drink to their future.
**********
Some time later, Jill stands up and walks over to the radio. She flips through the stations until she finds the song Valentine by Martina McBride. She walks back to Kevin and holds out her hand.
Jill: Dance with me.
Kevin: Gladly.
He takes her hand and pulls her into his arms.
If there were no words
No way to speak
I would still hear you
If there were no tears
No way to feel inside
I’d still feel for you
And even if the sun refused to shine
Even if romance ran out of rhyme
You would still have my heart until the end of time
You’re all I need my love my valentine
All of my life
I have been waiting for all you give to me
You’ve opened my eyes and
Showed me how to love unselfishly
I’ve dreamed of this a thousand times before
In my dreams I couldn’t love you more
I will give you my heart until the end of time
You’re all I need my love my valentine
And even if the sun refused to shine
Even if romance ran out of rhyme
You would still have my heart until the end of time
Cause all I need is you my valentine
You’re all I need my love my valentine
Jill: Kevin?
She raises her head to look up into his eyes.
Kevin: Yes?
Jill: Do you remember me saying that there was still another surprise left?
Kevin: Yes.
Jill: Well I know you and the guys are leaving on tour tomorrow. How do you feel about having some company for a few days?
Kevin: Having some company? Wait, are you saying what I think you are?
Jill: I was hoping you wouldn’t mind me joining you for a few days. Is that alright with you?
Kevin grabs her around the waist and starts twirling her around.
Jill: I guess that’s a yes.
Kevin: Of course it is!
He kisses her deeply before setting her back down.
Kevin: Are you sure about this though? We’re going to be busy with rehearsals, autograph signings, concerts and everything else. We get up when it’s still dark outside and don’t stop moving all day. We don’t really get that many chances to relax either, and when we do, usually all we want to do is sleep or play basketball. It might not be that fun for you.
Jill: If I get to be with you, it doesn’t matter to me.
Kevin smiles and hugs her again before pulling her down to sit on the blanket with him.
Kevin: This is going to be so great! Brian’s always off with Nick, and Howie and A.J. usually spend their free time together too. Now I’ll have you. Of course you’re probably going to be sick of the sound of my voice when it’s all over with.
Jill: Are you kidding me? I could listen to you read the phone book!
Kevin: Really? We’ll have to see about that. For now, come here you.
He puts his arm around her and she rests her head on his shoulder. They stare at the fire in silence, not needing words to express how they’re feeling, and just enjoy being together.
