Blades of Power.
A blade of power is in itself an entity. It is a life force and a being that is bonded with its wielder. The blades of power are made of an unknown crystal element that is stronger then steal and never chips, dulls, or otherwise affected by attrition of any sort. Each of the blades also has a power and affinity over a given element or species. Some favor fire, others favor water, or air, though not all of the blades have been documented as far as their given special abilities. Although it is not sentient, it acts more as a source of additional energy and focal instrument for the Blade Kin who wields it. When it is joined with its user, their life force combines, melding the two beings essences making it very difficult to separate the life force of the two combined entities. Once joined, the Blade Kin and Blade of power cannot be separated, unless one or the other is utterly destroyed. Currantly, there are 8 of these blades accounted for of the original 12 that were known to exist. Each of the blades is different in its purpose and melded abilities it gives its wielder. However several commonalities do take place once a blade of power and Blade Kin are joined.

1. The Blade Kin becomes for the most part immortal. Since it is joined with an element that does not age, the Blade Kin ages at an incredibly slow rate. Though he/she can die of old age, it may take hundreds, or even thousands of years. They are immune to natural diseases and sickness, including mummy rot, and lycanthrope.

2. When the blade is mixed with the essence of the wielder, their body goes through a change at a cellular level. They do not bleed as a mortal when wounded, and are unaffected by poisons and toxins. This also makes the blood of the Blade Kin very undesirable to creatures that feed upon it. (though drink and spirits will have a slight effect upon them). Their blood takes upon a translucent blue color, and becomes thick and viscous, clotting quickly.

3. The essence of the blade of power transfers limited magic resistance to the wielder. Most magic that effects the wielder on a physical level, (i.e. altering or damaging forms or magic directed at his physical body) has very little effect. Though magic and effects that are directed at the area around him/her happen normally. This applies to the blade of power as well.

4. The wielder of a blade of power is for the most part joined with the blade for one reason. Combat. Because of this, the healing rates of a Blade Kin are much faster then normal individuals. Though he/she can be killed with enough trauma, it takes a great deal of damage to destroy a Blade Kin…but it can be done. However, a Blade Kin still feels pain and does not relish the wounds of battle.

5. The Blades of power for the most part are indestructible short of a greater divine act. They are immune to shape changing, i.e. stone shape, etc. or any magic that would alter its form. If a blade is destroyed, the reaction is nothing short of a catastrophic explosion of energy, akin to a retributive strike via a Staff of the Magi. If a creature or being somehow managed to destroy the blade, it would suffer incredible damage, likely destroying itself in the process.

6. Each wielder of the blade can mentally communicate with another Blade Kin if that Blade Kin is near or their location is known. Also the blade of power will always sense another blade of power or Blade Kin if in the vicinity, and transfer those feelings to the wielder.

7. If at any time the blade of power is separated from the hands or possession of its wielder, it may be summoned by the wielder and will appear from where it is, via dimensional travel. A blade kin will always have his blade upon him, or know exactly where it is due to the essence connection with the blade. If the hand holding the blade is separated, it will automatically transport to the remaining hand. If both hands are separated from the Blade Kin, it will meld physically into the arm of the Blade Kin, (this will take 1 round). If somehow, both of the arms are separated from the body, well You better think fast, cause your probably going to die.

8. Due to the essence of the Blades energy, the wielder will go through physical enhancements. He or she will become, faster, stronger and more resilient to things such as heat and cold. This is increased by the length of time a Blade kin and the blade of power have been joined.

9. If a Blade Kin is destroyed, the blade of power will meld with the first individual whose life’s blood it comes in contact with. The joining will be immediate and the blade will transfer its energy to the New Blade Kin automatically. (This could be quite a surprise to a wielder whom does not know this for the blade will transport into his opponents hand, leaving him disarmed.) Depending upon what the blade of power is like, the joining can be any where from a subtle change in the new Blade Kin’s body to a rage of energy transfer. In a way, it is a parasite, living off the hands that wield it.

10. In the event that some force would attempt to try and remove the soul, or life force of the Blade kin, the Blade of Power will automatically create an essence barrier around the wielder that will prevent this from happening. As the essence of the Blade is of an alien nature, it will take all steps possible to protect it's wielder.
