The Association Ain Bechar
for the environment and rural development
(AABERD)

History of the Association

The Association of Ain Bechar for the environment and rural development was founded in august of 1999 by M’hamed Amharref, a resident of Upper Taza..

A teacher by profession, Mr. Amharref has always involved himself in social, educational, cultural and environmental development in his community. He has been an elected member of the commune of Bab Boudir since 1992, a member of the Moroccan scouts since 1973 and influential in the organization from 1980-1990, secretary general of the ‘Association de bienfaisance de Ghiata Maknassa’ of Taza from 1995-1996, member of the Friouato Association for the environment and the fight against illiteracy, member of the Taza festival organizational committee since 1994, president of the association of culture and the touristic festival of Bab Boudir since 2003, and president of the AABERD since November of 2000.

Mr. Amharref had the idea to found this association following discussions with Tazekka park staff of which he is a member in the educational division. They wanted to found an association with the Village of Ain Bechar to elaborate and realize independent projects for financial well-being, for the protection of the environment, especially the forests which are over-exploited for wood fuel heat in the cold season, and for livestock especially caprins (goats) which we emphasize. Therefore, we must protect the forest and sensitize people to these problems by taking on diverse projects and activities.

As stipulated by name and article 4 of its statutes, the Association of Ain Bechar for the Environment and Rural Development is interested in the essential dimensions of a community: economic, social, cultural and environmental. We are also interested in cooperation with other communities on regional, national, and international levels. The association is comprised of 80 members.

Here are our projects, past and present.
