I love fall. Fall's my favorite season of the year. The leaves change to pretty colors - vibrant yellows, oranges and scarlets. They fall off the trees and make wonderful crunching sounds when I walk or roll in them. The breezes turn brisk as the temperatures drop and mew know the holidays are just around the corner. The kids go back to school. It's time for football games and cookouts, pep rallies and fundraisers, making new furrends and renewing old furrendships. Halloween is fun with haunted houses and hayrides, costumes and trick or treating, candy and black cats everywhere mew look! Then comes Thanksgiving with its turkey and dressing, cranberries and pumpkin pie. It's a time for families and giving thanks and remefuring the good times. There are so many, many reasons to love fall. Can mew name some too???

Autumn is indeed a wonderful time of year. After a hot and muggy summer, Autumn’s crisp, cool air is such a relief! The trees shed all their gold and pumpkin colored leaves, making crunchy blankets all across the city. During Autumn, all my senses are clearer and more alert than ever from the cool and brittle air, making catching a squirrel as simple as “stalk, twitch, pounce.” The lazy days of summer are over. Gone. Finé. I can take up a life of the action cat. Climb all the trees in the park. Wander far and wide, pouncing on the unsuspecting strollers. Soon, the world will be full of pumpkin pie, and little ghosts and goblins asking for sweets at the door. Meowmie isn’t willing to let me out on Halloween for the fear that someone might trap me or maim me. As if I can’t take care of myself... pah. It kills me to sit at that living room window, and watch all those bitty little children from above. I could take on every one. But soon other things fall into place, as Halloween fades from my memory. Turkey and parades make life good again at the approach of kinder holidays. Meowmie, being a vegetarian, goes out to buy a Tofurkey for herself, and a turkey for the relatives. The family includes many Jewish grandmothers, thank God, as they take it upon themselves to practically stuff me with turkey. “Oy, this poor cattala. Masha, look at the skin and bones on this thing!” Mmmm... life is sweet. Thus is why Autumn is surely my favorite time of year. From the falling leaves, to the crisp air, to the scrumptious holidays, Autumn is a season extraordinaire.

I know it is an ancient concept. In the old language of Latin is was called Autumnus. Could not find if it was also a Greek word which would date it efen more. Definitely has Latin roots and according to Webster's it entered English language in the 16th Century. It is the time between Equinox in September (21st or 22nd) to winter solstice, December 21.

The ofur things I know about Autumn are mostly things I've heard my Meowmie talk about. Mew see, I am a California kitty. Southern CA, which has a furry temperate climate so our autumn or fall is not much different. It is a transition. Right now it is still hot enough for Meowmie to turn on Air Conditioning. It will get cooler around the end of August. Mew know, down to 50's. In December during winter it may actually get down to 35 or so. But Meowmie says in ofur parts of US it is quite different. Trees begin to lose leaves, and those that are on tress have turned to golden brown or red. Raking leaves is a weekly or daily activity in those areas. She said as a rule the air was getting brisk and mew had to wear coats (don't know what else cats needed besides fur).

I kinda wish I could see it furst hand, this big change, but I am grateful that it is getting cooler. It was too darn hot too often this summer, and it is a welcome and refreshing change to cool off efen a little. The 100 degree temperature was just too much. So efen if mew can't really see much of a difference here, there is somefing of a change. And as I said this change is furry welcome!

Purrs,
