Thursday, June 14th. Day 7
This was our last day in town so after getting up at 9:30 we
packed and went down to the casino for one last shot.
Sometime during the night the Trop made a few changes. I went
to an area where I had played a video poker machine the night
before and it was gone. In its place were some of those new
slots with video screens. How can people play those things ?
There must be five video reels across and five pay lines. Each
"reel" has all these goofy looking symbols. Like oranges, and
Uncle Fester and stuff like that. And what's with these
machine with the barefoot, bib-overall wearing, hillbillies
sitting on a porch ? You walk by one of these machines and it
burps ! Who do they think are gonna play these machines, kids ?
Anyway, I kept looking and finally found where they had moved
the VP machine I had played. Too bad I found it, I dropped $100
in no time. I left it and went back to a JOB I had played
earlier in the week and won my $100 back.
After that, Tootsie and I decided to tag team the MegaBucks
slots one more time before we had to leave. Didn't win any
money this time but we had fun trying.
We went back to the room, finished packing, checked out on the
television, and called the Bell desk to get our luggage.
Standing out front at the taxi line waiting for a taxi to take
us to the airport I noticed a Las Vegas Limo pull up with no
riders. I told the Bellman to ask the driver if he wanted a
fare to the airport. The driver was waiting for someone who
didn't show up so he was more than happy to accommodate us.
Our flight home left Las Vegas at 1:00 via KC where we were
delayed for about 45 minutes due to severe weather in Atlanta.
Once in Atlanta we still had a 2 1/2 hour drive and didn't
arrive home until 2:00 am the next morning.
All in all this was a fantastic trip. We had just spent one
week in Las Vegas, absolutely free. Three nights at Caesars
Palace comped courtesy of a slot club promotion. Three nights
at the Tropicana comped based on previous play and a casino
promotion. Both of us came home with more money than we left
with. In my case I had over twice as much money. All of our
meals were either comped or paid for with winnings. If you
figure in the cost of airfare I still brought back more than I
left with.
This trip was the exception to the rule. I have taken trips to
Las Vegas in the past where no matter what I played I couldn't
win. Normally I budget an amount that I feel comfortable
losing, that's my entertainment, that's the cost of my vacation.
Sometimes I do pretty good, most of the time the house edge
takes its toll. We were very lucky this trip and all I can say
is "IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME !"
