My Cave

Last year I did not know how important it was to do well in school. I slacked of on my assignments and studying, and, as a result, I received poor grades. After the first quarter I vowed to work harder, but when first semester ended my report card wasn’t anywhere near as good as I would have liked it to be, so for third quarter I decided to receive the help of Mrs. McDermott, the studying expert who works in the library helping students improve their grades and get better time-budgeting and study habits. I thought that starting over with a clean slate for second semester would help; I could start all over and get good grades. This, however, proved false once again, I actually got the worst report card I have ever gotten. As a result, I was put on academic probation, which required me to have regular progress reports sent home from teachers and to spend three days a week in the library for an hour of supervised study.

I was disappointed in myself, but I knew that this program would help me become the best student that I could be. I worked harder, but I still didn’t care enough. My final report card was better than before, but it wasn’t anything near what I had originally wanted.

Over the summer I attended a retreat, YSP (Youth Sing Praise). While I was there, I was inspired by all of the people there with me who were so talented, yet so dedicated to learning and getting an education. Most of the seniors were going to prestigious universities to follow the dreams they each wanted. I still keep in contact with most of them and seeing how dedicated and happy they all are has really inspired me to work harder and focus on school.
