Halo's Tale

Our sweet, sweet Halo.   Sometimes things that dont work out, and seem to be off in timing, etc all and seems to come full circle  and work out in the end . My husband insists that any dog that makes it way back home, or things happen where it never leaves...is fated to stay with us and we shouldnt question it. So is the case with sweet Halo. Now so dear to us, its hard to write her story.

I thought she was   to go out west, and she was my hopeful to represent this breeding and do her parents proud. As a proud Mom I hoped she would be propelled to stardom as she all "IT" going for her! When 8 weeks came about it was deep in our Ky winter and near Christmas, so we waited until an opening in the weather. Plans were made for the last day of Westminster to Fly out West...but in that timing was a tragic day for all the afghan fancy. The last thing needed out there was a wild and wooly hellion!

In an attempt to "socialize" her with other afghans and people, as most my dogs are spoiled "mama's dogs", I thought it would benefit her to keep her out of state sister company for a few months before she hit 6 months and shows started. Well I think it was 2 things that went wrong-the older dogs didnt approve of her outgoing ways I suppose, and it was a pack situation so she learned she was a "little guy/newcomer" .  As she came back to me unable to be around other afghans without falling over in submission!   Other breeds are fine, as are strange people- just afghans she does the "fainting goat"- esp. older bitches!  The worst thing a "show dog" needs to do is be submissive to strange dogs...as in a show situation...they need confidence in the face of strangers and to be relaxed.  But she will bluff and jump in the air trying to "bluster" at strange dogs with tail wagging in good fun..just not afghans! I think it was just a matter of being "in control" of the situation, as she gets very anxious and goes into the motions of getting worked up when the grooming noose would hit the top of her neck...no noose..shes better!

So I decided after she came back to clip her and let her go a few months just being a dog, then start from ground zero to get her head on and back to herself. I think she has such nice fluid movement and just is stunning- our "Lil' Lo-Lo". I know that temperment is still in there, as she was just like her father when she was young...just thought she was "IT!"....and  loved everyone. She has adjusted to our afghans just fine, but its strange afghans we are working on.

I know she can do it, she has that  ZEST her sister Diva does for being in the "Limelight", and deserves to be seen. Look for her and clap her on!
