'neath The Haunted Willow

line

In the ebb and flow of night
Where the virgin wrapped in white
Sleeps the patient slumber deep,
'neath the haunted willow.

Lieing in her bed of weeds
Unknown to the land she breathes
The secret what had happened there,
'neath the haunted willow.

Orphaned to her uncle's care
A thane, her loved, to deep despair
But ward forbade them ever meet,
'neath the haunted willow.

Dark the cloudy evening drew.
Light the hearts of maidens grew,
So wondered out to meet her love
'neath the haunted willow.

Draped in shrouds of white she stood
On rivers bank, in darkest wood
Strange whisperings she fair did hear,
'neath the haunted willow.

And moonlight speckled leafy ground
Behind the river rushes sound
Sung the simple soul asleep
With spells that haunted willows keep.

And thus asleep the winds did blow,
No covered maid in leaves did show
But tangled in its branches bound,
Aloft the haunted willow.

And gentle, with a lovers care
The willow laid the maiden bare
In waters there to ever sleep,
'neath the haunted willow.

In the ebb and flow of night
Where the Virgin draped in white
Sleeps in patient slumber deep
Waiting for her lover.
