ADI.
You don't have any idea (or maybe you do) how much I feel pity for my self, because I have to write this composition (Michal will like it!) in English. poor Iftach.
Because it very difficult for me to write even one right (and smart) sentence in this horrible language, my original idea was writing quotations from songs that I like that will make a graceful ('heinani') Mazal-Tov for your birthday.
So now you must think that I'll congratulate you for your 17th birthday, right? so let me remind you something: in the week I have my 18th(!) birthday. it's very sad to me to tell you but your birthday isn't important. I'm old! I have no hair on my head!
I took all my forty(!) discs and I searched for song that will tell one story -happy story for your birthday. but:no can do. Ruti asked me a month ago if I know a good happy disc. I told her that happy music is not my style.
After an hour of an exhausting research I found only two songs. And it's very hard to say that they're happy songs. But I don't care. I like those songs.
"it's four in the morning, the end of December
I'm writing to you now just to see if you're better
New-York is cold but I like where I'm living
There's music on Clifton street all thru the evening.
I hear that you're building your little house deep in the desert
You're living for nothing now
I hope you're keeping some kind of record
Yes and Jane came by with a lock of your hair
She said that you gave it to her
That night you planned to go clear
Did you ever go clear?"
(Leonard Cohen)
I'm sorry. Only now do I relays (inversion!) this song is not exactly a happy-birthday-song. But I like this song: it's very nice, and I like Cohen very much (the depressive and primary part of me). Two or three things about this song: the address in the song is a guy. The second thing: some people says that Iggy Vaxman stole some lines from this song. anyway: the mood is different.
The second song is more happy-birthday-song-ish (I hope you understand what I meant to say with this 'phrase').
"Sail on silvergirl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine.
If you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind"
(Paul Simon)
Someone told me that there isn't such thing - troubled water. But it's not important. You can ask your little Tama-Australian (have you already found a name for the Australian? Fishenzon? Mitzi? Iftach?
Happy Birthday.
Iftach Helling.
