A-C

 

Adept: someone who is a master in skill.

Affirmations: Is a wonderful way of retraining your mind to develop the faith, will, and mind focus you need to properly work any magickal task. This is positive thinking! Some keep a journal just for their affirmations. For example: If you have a hard time with staying focused in meditation, write in your journal before you sleep that "you will be focused and well grounded every time you meditate", over and over for the whole page or until you feel that it is time to stop writing. Do this every night until your meditation gets better.

Altar: a place where you decorate and pay homage to your deity of choice (usually in the east, north or center of your sacred space, depending on your tradition.).

Amulet: Considered to be an object of protection that has been charged to deflect negative energies. They are more powerful when made by the owner.

Ankh: An egyptian hieroglyphic that is depicted as a cross with a looped top. Its symbolism is usualy of life, love, and reincarnation. 

Arcane: the name of the tarot cards usually split into two halves the major consists of 22 cards depicting dominate occurrences in our lives. The minor arcane consists of 56 suit cards that assist in fleshing out the trump situations or indicates smaller occurrences in our lives.

Astral:

Astral Travel/Projection: 

Athame (a-thay-mea): A black handled dagger or knife. Never used for cutting anything on the material plane. Cleansed and consecrated and used as a ceremonial knife only.

Balefire: A large fire safely constructed outside for both a practical and magickal function. You can usually see these on sabbats such as Beltane, Midsummer, Lughnasadh and Mabon.

Bane: Another word for bad, evil, destructive.

Banish: To rid the presence of, to magickally end something or exorcise unwanted entities.

Bind: To magickally restrain something or someone.

Book or shadows (Grimoire): The witch's (bos) is much like a chef's cookbook, the witch can put his/her spells, journal entries, new tarot spreads, dreams ect...

Bolline: White handled knife used for harvesting herbs for ritual and magickal purposes.

Burning Times: 

Cauldron: The cauldron is the symbol of the womb of the Goddess and use as such in rituals like Brigid and Samhain.

Chakras: Seven major energy vortexes found in the human body. Each is usually associated with a color. These vortexes are: crown-white; forehead (third eye position) -purple; throat -blue; chest -pink or green; navel -yellow; abdomen -orange; groin -red. Smaller vortexes ore located in the hands and feet, as well.

Chalice: A symbol of the female energy, this also symbolizes the element of water used only in ritual and magickal purposes.

Charge of the Goddess:

Charms: Charms are usually an amulet or talisman that has been charmed by saying an incantation over it and instilling it with energy for a specific task.

Cone of Power:

Cleansing: The act of removing any negative energy, vibrations or images from an object or place by utilizing positive, psychic energy.

Consecration: The act of blessing an object or place by instilling it with positive energy.

Coven: A group of 13 or less witches working together in an organized fashion for positive magickal endeavors or to perform religious ceremonies. Also, working together as sister and brotherhood for only through perfect love and perfect trust can the work truly be done.

Familiar: a magickal companion of the animal kingdom, not a house pet but an animal that has agreed to help you in ritual and your magickal indevers spoken to and treated at the same level as any other human.

Guardians: Ceremonial magicians use the Guardians of the Watchtowers or Guardians of the Four Quarters. Some Witches use them, too.

Handfasting: A Wiccan or Pagan marriage ceremony.

Initiation: A ceremony designed to symbolize the transformation of the initiates new concept of personal and worldly reality. This usually consists of a symbolism of death, rebirth and introducing your self to the Goddess and God with your new chosen magikal name.

Invocation: To bring something from without.

Karma: This follows the laws of cause and effect, what ever you put out you get back times three!!! be it good or bane.

Left-hand Path: I never heard of this until I read: To ride a silver broomstick by Silver RavenWolf. This is in reference to those who feel that they are justified in using magick for non constructive purposes to other beings. It is a reference that they are possibly a self-serving individual. conversely, the right-hand path is considered positive in nature.
