THE CROFTON-ATKINS FAMILY

Major-General Richard Henry Crofton of Lakefield Co. Leitrim Ireland and Powick, worcestershire was the 4th son of Duke Crofton of Lakefield.  Born January 31, 1818 he married on 22 June 1848 to Frances Mary Marsh, daughter of Arthur Cuthburt Marsh of Eastbury Park, Herfordshire.  They had issue of three sons (now extinct) and a daughter.  He had further issue by Emily Catherine Brown (I assume he was illegitemate)  younger daughter of William James Brown of  Gravesend, Kent by his wife Catherine Ann Atkins, daughter of William Atkins of Ardagh Co. Cork.  The Reverend William Crofton-Atkins was a product of the latter union.  Emily subsequently married William Randell of Combe Bank, Kent and died November 28, 1899 aged 79.  Major General Crofton died 23 March 1897.
CROFTON-ATKINS 1ST GENERATION
William Arthur Crofton-Atkins of Highland's Lodge, St. Leonards, Sussex and formerly of Combe Park, Kent served as an Ensign in the 2nd Foot Guards.  Born on December 2, 1843 he was educated at Westminster, St. John's College, and Magdalen College, Oxford (B.A.); Lecturer in Theology at Durham University (1872). He married on June 14, 1866 to Charlotte Anne Rosallie Coles ) She died December 5th, 1926), eldest daughter of Rev. Edward Norman Coles of Pottsgrove Bedfordshire.

Children of William Arthur Crofton-Atkins
1. Brig. General Cyril Randell Crofton-Aktins, C.B.) of Trobridge Crediton, Devon.  He served in the Boer war 1899-1902 as a General Staff Officer in the Mounted Light Infantry Corps (mentioned in his dispatches three times, wounded and promoted to Brev. Major).  Served in WW1 1914-1918 as Lt. Col. commanding 2nd Bn. Sherwood Foresters (mentioned in dispatches and wounded in 1915). Promoted to Brig. General in 1916 and commanded the 9th (Scottish) Yeoman Cavalry Brigade 1917-19.  He Retired from the army in 120.  He reverted back to his original surname from Crofton-Atkins to Crofton by deed poll in 1936.  Born on March 27, 1867, educated privately and went to the Royal Military College, Sandhurst.  He Married July 11, 1905 to Josephine Emily Lyne Evans (she died August 4 1957 aged 80), formerly the wife of John Edgar Gordon and was the only daughter of Arthur Henry Lyne Evans of Haydock, Lancashire and Llanddogett Park, Denbighshire.  He died November 30, 1941.

Reginald Darby Randell Crofton-Atkins of Weybridge, Surrey Born October 1869, died October 1941, educated at Clare College, Cambridge (M.B. 1893, M.D. 1899), Married Jan. 5th, 1902 to Mabel Anne Webster who died on June 30,1963 aged 84, daughter of Alexander Brand Webster of Whistanes, Brisbane Australia: and had issue.
3. Alban Randell Crofton Atkins,  (My Great Grandfather) Sir, K.C.B. (1919), C. M. G. (1915) K.G. St.J. Maj. Gen., Director of Supply and Transport in WW1 1916-19, later on diplomatic and commercial missions in Paris, Belgrade and Rio De Janeiro; Chav. Legion of Honor (France), Order of Leopold (Belgium), Crown of Italy, Redeemer (Greece), White Eagle with Swords (serbia); born Jun e29, 1870, died April 30, 1926, educated privately at The Royal Nautical College, Greenwhich, married December 19th to May Clara Bongard M.B.E. (1918), she died March 25, 1919 daughter of Daniel William Bongard of London and NY.    Decoration Conferred by the French Republic  Conceived the "Slough Project" 1917 
My Grandfather: Grandson of William Arthur Crofton-Atkins, Charles Arthur Crofton-Atkins, O.B.E. (1963), of Av. Angamos 1585, Miraquores, Lima, Peru. Dir. and Gen Mgr. of Central Railway of Peru, born Jan. 18, 1906 educated at Rossall; married 3 March 1933 to Mary Mason, daughter of Harry Mason of Northwood Middlesex, and Lima, Peru.
