I loved you like the first innocent leap of love,
reddening a virgin's cheeks.
Like the flowers of May blooming for you,
holding their fragrance only for you to smell it.
Like a fresh breeze, caressing the edges of your hair,
whispering to your ear, oaths of everlasting love.
Like a spark jumping over a fire, starting a new
and bigger one, inflaming our bodies with desire.
Like a starry sky, giving you armfuls of stars,
shimmering your way and brightening your dreams.
Like the thirsty soil, receiving the first drizzles,
like a Christian gets the Holy Communion.
I loved you like a chord, waiting for the musician's
magic fingers to touch it.
Like a river, running to meet the sea,
like a sinner, begging for forgiveness.
I loved you like a woman, giving everything,
soul and heart, entirely and forever.
