The issue of public key encryption is a conflict between freedom of speech and national security. Public key encryption allows users to send any sort of information between one another with almost a garuntee of privacy. This is exactly what frightens most law makers. The encryption is too good. John the buisness man, Bill the terrorist, and Frank the video game freak all fave access to a system of encryption that even N.S.A. super computers have trouble cracking. This raises many obvious problems.

Dispite its many dangers, I believe that public key encryption should still be legal. Simply put, public key encryption allows a level of privacy that all people have a right to. The internet is crawling with mischive makers who dilight in stealing credit card numbers and posting classified business information. Why do these hackers do this? What reason do they have to steal or vandilize a person's credit information. Personally, I think its because they are dorks. Public key encryption provides an excellent method of keeping the dorks at bay. I find the argument that this encryption would provide security to terrorist transmissions and criminal plots to be fairly weak. There are a lot more hackers out on the internet then terrorists. Eliminating public key encryption will not stop criminals for communicating. They will simply find new methods. Public key encryption should continue being used.
